The Social Body Experiment

Everyone is insecure about the way they look. Are my hands too big, my legs too fat, am I too skinny? But people don’t like talking about these insecurities, and usually turn to the net for answers. This new social website wants to take the embarrassment out of these questions by creating an anonymous environment that allows you to get feedback about yourself as well as be a support system for others.

Its minimal design makes it very easy to use, and the developer goes to great lengths to reinforce the privacy of its users as well as the sites intent to keep the community positive.

Disable those ANNOYING Windows Popup Balloon Tips

I can’t even begin to describe how annoying those stupid Windows pop up tool tips are.

Time for them to go away! To disable balloon tips in the notification area, follow these steps:

  • Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
  • Locate the following subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
  • Right-click the right side pane, create a new DWORD value, and then name it EnableBalloonTips.
  • Double-click EnableBalloonTips, and then give it a value of 0.
  • Close Registry Editor.
  • Log off Windows, and then log back on.

Goodbye and good riddance!

Tired of The Old Boring Default Mac OS Boot Logo… Change it Easily!

I’m a fan of nostalgia. I love retro computing, I love classic hardware, I love vintage operating systems. So when this application crossed my way, I had to use it.

BootXChanger makes it stupidly simple to change your Mac’s boot logo. Turn the drab boring Apple logo into something that means something to you! In the DMG they include a few sample images ranging from the original rainbow Apple logo to the classic 2-bit B&W “Happy Mac”.

There are also instructions on how to create your own boot logo, but the developer cautions you about the VERY strict requirements that are necessary to get the logo to display. My advice stick with the stock ones.

You can’t best the price: Free! Thanks Anthony!

Now THIS Is A Fashion Statement

Well, there are two ways to get noticed: Be Hip & Trendy or Be Different. Sometimes with high end fashion its hard to tell what is what. I can tell you however this falls in the “different” category.

This Just Is/Isn’t Apple’s Day! Thanks to Google, Palm, Foxconn and AT&T

Seems like this is Apple’s week for news (since when is it not) – but not all of the news is good.

Palm Fires Back and ReEnables iTunes Syncing:

Palm’s just released webOS 1.1.0. Quite a bit of changes here, but most importantly, the patch notes say that it “resolves an issue preventing media sync from working with latest version of iTunes (8.2.1)” — that issue, of course, being a blockade put in place by Apple just one week ago. [via

Google enables latitude on iPhones only as a web app - because Apple thought it would confuse users:

We worked closely with Apple to bring Latitude to the iPhone in a way Apple thought would be best for iPhone users. After we developed a Latitude application for the iPhone, Apple requested we release Latitude as a web application in order to avoid confusion with Maps on the iPhone, which uses Google to serve maps tiles.

Hmm. We all know that Apple and Google are pretty buddy-buddy, after all, Google CEO Eric Schmidt is on Apple board (though it’s not clear for how long). But something about this sounds a bit odd. Apple dictating product decisions to Google, and Google listening. [via]

Foxxcon worker commits suicide after prototype iPhone vanishes:

Sun Danyong, 25, was tasked with sending 16 fourth-generation iPhone prototypes to Apple this month, but Apple only received 15 when the package arrived, according to Chinese media. Sun reportedly leaped from his apartment window last week, though police are investigating whether he may have been murdered, the Shanghai Daily said.

Foxconn, a Taiwanese company that has manufactured Apple iPods and iPhones for years, allegedly pressured Sun to hand over the missing phone, the Chinese-language Southern Metropolis Daily said, and he was reportedly roughed up by a company security official. [via

...and how AT&T is now starting to talk about the iPhone exclusivity, I sense some tension in the air:

AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson’s admission at the Fortune Brainstorm: Tech Conference so stark. According to CNET, he stated that, “There will be a day when you are not exclusive with the iPhone.” While it’s true that nothing lasts forever, it’s not a positive message coming from AT&T’s perspective (though it is one for iPhone owners). Add A Headphone Remote Control to Any Pair of Headphones

Like using Apple’s inline headphone remote, but not so thrilled with Apple’s headphone quality? This little dongle is here to help!

The iEA15 is an in-line remote that’s compatible with iPhones and iPods, including the third-generation iPod Shuffle, which doesn’t have any physical buttons on the unit. The in-line remote supports the VoiceOver feature found on the Shuffle as well, but what makes this interesting is that it lets you plug in any headphone you like to your Apple device and still have the convenience of a remote control.

No word yet on the pricing, but this is certainly something that really Apple should have included in the box when they ship their iPods.

Inspiration When Least Expected

Today, Amazon bought Zappos for nearly $1 billion dollars. Sure, it is a match for like minded titans, but the video Jeff Bezos explaining the core philosophies of Amazon I think is the most valuable public asset of the transaction.

I found it well worth the 8 minutes to watch.
