MacBook Pro emblazoned with sponsorship logos

Laser etched MacBook Pro

Amazing! Talk about taking laser etching and logos to the extreme. This MacBook Pro is fully loaded thanks to the laser etched sponsors on the cover. Check out the rest of the details on the story here [via]. The original post which prompted the laser etching deal can be read in full glory here.

Sponsorship for automobiles is nothing new. I’m glad to see someone managed to attain their machine using sponsors laser engraved on the cover of a laptop.

Sony PSP 3.0 update released (In Japan)

psp01.jpg

Sony Japan has released firmware ver 3.0 for the PSP which includes quite a few additions like the Auto UMD setting which prevents a game from loading when the UMD is inserted. In addition to this it has the Camera function which allows to use the optional add on camera to be released later. However the main addition is the tight integration with the PS3 which allows you to view images and play music stored on the PS3 when connected via Wi-Fi. You can also use the PSP as a remote control for the PS3 (Remote Play).

No mention yet about the ability to play PS2 and PSOne games, but I figure Sony would want to fix that bug on the PS3 first.

Questioning your partners fidelity?

Gemini tracking deviceQuestioning the whereabouts of your partner when they’re off at “work” or on a business trip? How about worrying about your children’s whereabouts? Gemini Tracking may have a tiny device in a small cellphone shaped unit [via] perfectly suited to squash your worries concerning such questions.

Gemini Technologies is pleased to introduce the Gemtek Personal Tracking Device, a portable tracking device unlike anything else available. The Gemtek is a small device that allows consumers to remotely track the position of a loved one, pet, asset or any other important item in real-time through the Internet or by placing a phone call.

The Gemtek Tracking Device utilizes a combination of technologies – including GPS, GPRS, SMS, and GSM – in order to accurately report the current location of the device. Drop on of these bad boys in your car, someones purse, your dogs collar, or anything else worth tracking. With prices starting at $20 ranging all the way to James Bond-ish $40, your excuses for tracking valuables no longer exists.

Pixelnotes – Sticky Notes wallpaper

Stick Notes Wallpaper

Putting the “paper” in wallpaper, literally. The pixelnotes wallpaper project consists of four layers of sticky note paper. Forgetting random brain farts or ideas is no longer an excuse as long as you have these handy opportunities for notes handy. I’m sure a real installation at home would set you back a pretty penny so I recommend a quiet afternoon to get something of your own setup using 3M post-it notes.

How-to: Make OS X save dialog box useful

OS X users are completely aware of the ever so helpful save dialog box which is enabled by default. Check the screenshot below for an example of one. Minimal, limited, yet simple enough for the average user with most save directories being those found within your Home directory.

Default save dialog box

Fortunately, the limitations of the above save dialog box (default) can be expanded into something like that found below. Toggling between the two is as simple as clicking the small arrow adjacent to the “Save as:” text field.

Full save dialog box

Want the full featured save dialog box to display by default when saving documents & files? A little Terminal action will solve your frustrations. Open up Terminal found at ‘Applications > Utilities > Terminal’ and type the following [via]:

defaults write -g NSNavPanelExpandedStateForSaveMode -bool TRUE

Once the change has been made, enjoy the convenience of the full featured save dialog box without having to toggle between that less convenient alternative.

WiiLi – Live Linux for your Wii

Anticipating the arrival of the Wii gaming console, it’s time to start weighing our options as far as exploiting the rig for “other” purposes. Check out the WiiLi Wiki for resources on running a live Linux distro on the Wii console without the need for any hardware hacks / mods.

Get tangled in order to get organized

Harry gadget organizer

ThinkGeek offers an interesting little tangle of wires [via] which claim to be able to organize your cluttered collection of gadgets and gizmos. The tangle of wires, dubbed “Harry”, hang on your room wall or cubicle tack board providing ample tangles for storing such items as your cellphone, iPod, or USB thumbdrive (see image). The entire mess of wires takes on a similar property to that found in Velcro. Clingy. The mess of wires will set you back $30. Worth it?

Relaunch – Snapshots of your workflow on OS X

Want to pick-up exactly where you left off without breaking stride – even with a restart? Check out Relaunch.

Relaunch saves you time by taking Snapshots of which applications you are using, and starts them back up for you. Think of it as a launcher on steroids that lets you switch between work contexts with one click. It’s smart too! As well as starting groups of applications it also knows which documents you were working on in 30 popular applications and loads those up for you as well.

The menubar application has proven quite effective for times when a quick shutdown is required yet stopping work immediately is not possible. Restart and let Relaunch pick-up where you last left off. The application does have a $5 registration fee, but if you wander on over to MacZot, you can get your own copy for a little shy of $4.

Keep in mind that Relaunch does not work with all applications that you own, you may want to check through the list of compatible apps.
