Make Your Old TV… Modern

This post was published 3 months 9 days ago and its content may not be valid anymore.Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest TV, especially if you just dumped a ton of coin on the latest video game system. Here is how you bridge the gap between your modern console and your legacy TV.
The AT-HD530 from Atlona Technologies accepts a 1080P connection via HDMI or DVI and downconverts it to a standard definition signal with and S-video or RCA connections.
Sadly it wont work with HDCP-enabled devices, so that means no breaking of copy protection for you. Will set you back $299 sometime at the end of this month.
Or you could use the composite cables that came with the video game system and save $300. :-)
I wish it would work the other way, get some old Atari games and Gilligan’s Island in high def!
@Roger…don’t believe it actually up converts analog signals…only down converts to analog….can’t really see a big need for it with a hefty price tag like that, but then again…
Where does one find devices (ex. game consoles) that ONLY output in HDMI, thus requiring a HD to Analog down converter?
I think it’s a safe bet to say it’s better to use the native standard def output on any gaming device, as it will output the correct aspect ratio and probably render higher quality text and what not.
Exactly. In fact, people complain that the PS3 only includes a composite AV cable and the 360 only includes a switchable composite/component AV cable (it used to be composite only) with the systems. I can’t imagine how SD output from a game system would be a problem, much less one worth spending $300 for…
