Times Squares’ Secrets: LED Advertising and One Times Square Building is Empty
This post was published 7 months 10 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding. Here is a little geekery as well as interesting information about the building that is made famous every New Years Eve. The building (with the exception of the first three floors) is completely empty. Why? Well first is the cost to retrofit the building with modern amenities.
Because of the extensive cost of renovating the building with central air conditioning, the building currently has no tenants above the retail floors and is only used to hold dozens of colorful advertisements. Additionally, the operators of One Times Square have noted that the building makes more revenue as a collection of advertisements than it would full of tenants. [via]
But the geek side of things is the tech behind the LED signs that make Times Square sparkle.
so, if I understand this correctly, in the winter homeless people have to sit out in the cold, while right behind them there’s an empty building??
