On average, 100 people choke to death on ballpoint pens every year.
Women blink nearly twice as much as men.
No word in the English language rhymes with “MONTH”.
TYPEWRITER is the longest word that can be made using the letters only on one row of the keyboard.
“Go.” is the shortest complete sentence in the English language.
If Barbie were life-size, her measurements would be 39-23-33. She would stand seven feet, two inches
tall.
Consider yourself informed!
I don’t know about “month,” but it’s a common misconception that no words rhyme with purple (hurple: to limp dragging one foot behind) and silver (chilver: a ewe lamb).
I’m getting images of godzilla Barbie terrorizing America now! Also no English word rhymes with “orange” either…
How about this one: race car is spelled the same forwards and backwards!
“syringe” rhymes with “orange”
No it doesn’t?
I started to doubt these, but many appear to be right. On my fact-finding mission I reconnected with http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/, which is a really fun way to find out what other words can be made with your name, etc.
However, seems like “Be.” is as short as “Go.” Maybe only Yoda would say that. Of course, there are plenty of equally short and even shorter sentences that no English teacher would mark as incomplete if they were an answer to a question… “Eh?” “No!” “I.”
And I don’t quite understand the Barbie measurements, does it have to do with her head size? Because it seems to me possible that she’s 5′6 and her measurements are 30-18-25.
But your main point is well taken, Dan, these are good conversation-starters!!
