I agree with Renat – I was first surprised how easy to install, use and how nice features this piece had.
In few weeks the service of the device to my home network stopped/as well to internet of course, disk became invisible. As I had no time to deal with it immediately due to my vacation the disk stayed switched on for several weeks.
When I finally got the time to see whats up, I realized that the disk is very hot (in my cellar where the temperature has been stadily around 5-8C).
Now the disk is inaccessible even when it is just turned on and yet cool. As I learnt from support that that LACIE is not taking any responsibility for the loss of data etc I find this product useless. NEVER BUY THIS PRODUCT if the data storage is critical or important for you. Not even mentioning the waste of the time while trying unsuccessfully to recover my family photos from there.

It seems this isn’t yet available in the US at all yet. RENAT linked to the Network Space, not the Internet Space. They are both listed on the UK site; http://www.lacie.com/uk/products/range.htm?id=10007
Seems a nice product but has no one done this before?

Wait a couple years and you will see whether Lacie is trustworthy or not. They just entered display market, and besides they don’t manufacture these displays, in essence they just outsource the hardware design by simply sticking their logo on the product. It’s a French company wanting a piece of pie from American computing market. Me saying they mimic Apple’s approach to product design and packaging is a completely valid statement backed by many 15 years of computing experience.

I’ve actually had a great experience with LaCie’s displays. From my experience, they have nice quality. And just because it’s a crisp-looking white box, doesn’t mean that it was meant to mimic apple. That would be like saying Blockbuster Video copied Best Buy.

They used a B in their company name, they use blue in their logo (which suspiciously starts with a B), and yellow too! Blockbuster is just a bunch of cheap copycats who want to make a quick buck!

Just because you don’t like LaCie, doesn’t mean that you should say that they copy another company.

It’s $210 for a 1TB one, not 500GB. Also the white shell is only available in UK.

Very tempting product if it’s technology delivers on its promise. I, however, will NEVER TRUST LACIE for it’s hardware infrastructure that made me loose terabytes of data on three Lacie external drives due to internal overheat.
