AT&T Having DNS Issue, Or Actively Blocking Exchange?

This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding. At UNEASYcentral I’ve been getting scattered reports that iPhones have been having some issues reaching some websites as well as mail services.
An insider has informed me that AT&T has been actively trying to block iPhone users from using Microsoft Exchange that don’t pay a “secret” $11 fee. This filter has taken a toll on AT&T’s DNS servers that are making some websites inaccessible.
All the reports are from the North East area of the US and I can’t verify if that is a nationwide issue.
Are you effected by this “outage”?
Me and my co-workers with 3G data cards have been having problems accessing certain sites all day. It seems to be the same sites that are inaccessible to us (slashdot, boingboing, wsj.com)

Not to be pedantic, but it’s “affected”, not “effected”. Either way, it certainly wouldn’t surprise me if AT&T tried something like this. What I don’t understand is why a filter would affect their DNS services? They can’t block everyone’s externally-facing Exchange servers via DNS, they’d have to have a list of every company’s Exchange servers, and that’s not very likely.
I’m not having issues using Nuevasync on my iPhone, so either they’ve paid the ultra-double-secret-under the table fee or AT&T hasn’t caught on to them yet.
I don’t use AT&T DNS but I know that much of Comcast’s behind the scenes routing is done by AT&T and haven’t had an issue with that either.
James from New York City here. I have been showing bars all day on my phone, but i cant make any calls or texts. Big service issue going on over here.
I have yet to successfully set up Exchange on my iPhone. I’ve tried numerous different settings, and short of calling up IT and being ridiculed for owning anything Apple, I’ve just about given up. Sad seeing as it was something I’ve been looking forward to since I first purchased my iPhone in January. And yes, I’ve upgraded to the 3G iPhone.
Oh well, if it’s important, they can always call me.
same here and one of my coworkers… Started about 24 hours ago and very frustrating!
Me too. I haven’t had sync access to Exchange for 3-4 days. I thought it might be because of the 2.0.1 firmware I installed on Sunday, but Apple “assured” me At&t is not tied into any firmware changes. I’ve tried everything to get to re-setup without luck. By the way, I’m in Maryland and on the consumer data plan.
Cannot access properly even Yahoo most viewed news and Picasa (10/4/2008).
Is there some list of DNS addresses whic I can enter manually instead of relying on their automatic DNS assignement?
ATT is pretty bad.
