On my Grammar…
Something was pointed out to me today that really drove me crazy. I understand the fact that people make typographical mistakes, matter of fact I make my fair share. In addition to these mistakes I also make grammatical mistakes too.
There is this one jerk out there who has gone out of his way to really irk me. I am a single guy running a site with tens of thousands of readers that also has three other businesses on the side that I slave over to bring in income. I have no editor, nor am I an English major. I understand that my English skills are subpar (because of the environment I was educated in) but to have someone make a joke out of my deficiencies is offensive.
I want to say to this person, you know who you are, that I work hard everyday to try and deliver information to all the UNEASY’s out there the best I can and I work daily to provide the best content I can without an overseeing editor. If you think you can do better, join the team. If not, then shut your mouth and email me privately to fix the problems.
My rant is over, a story to follow shortly.

Ignore the fucker..! I love uneasy (Sure, I miss the amount of cool posts I used to see here not too long ago, but I understand you’ve got other things to tend to as well..), and I don’t hope some bastard getting aggravated by less-than-excellent grammar is gonna affect your spirit..

Roll it off your shoulders. We all know who he is so i won’t name any names *cough* ryan parman *cough*. While he was correcting spelling mistakes, he made one in word usage himself. Look here: http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2008/06/13221/
Most of the normal people who read this don’t care about the spelling/usage/grammar mistakes. Were just nerds here for the all-nerdy content :-P
This post was a long time coming… Mix the opressive heat in New York with a not so perfect day and the rants flow.
I understand that mistakes are made, but when you spell things incorrectly over and over it really is distracting.
Dan: Glad to hear you recognize the English here is subpar. Despite the way in which this way communicated to you, this really is something you ought to work on. I used to post comments pointing out the errors here, but eventually just got fed up and started frequenting places with better control over the manner in which their content was communicated.
Also, in my opinion, a rant like this is really unbecoming.
Fair enough. I wasn’t trying to be a jerk, but whatever. My simple point was that if you’re writing for a lot of people, it wouldn’t hurt to double-check your grammar — that’s all. Now that you’re aware of it, I won’t mention it again.
I do enjoy reading this blog, and promote it in a number of places. It’s just that it can be really distracting… kinda like when the employees of a fast food restaurant put a sign on the restroom that says “out off order.” Stuff like that can drive a person crazy.
Anyway, enough is enough. It wasn’t intended to be as negative as some have chosen to take it. The end.
I’ve actually received a couple of comments recently that have done the same thing to me. One even said that I need to write my posts in Word so that it would catch spelling and grammar mistakes for me. The icing on the cake is that the post he commented about was put into Word immediately after he commented and it didn’t tell me about ANY grammar mistakes OR spelling mistakes.
@TERMINALDIGIT – Well, I’m sorry you don’t agree with this rant, but this is the joy of owning a site; I can publish what I want. Based upon the comments I think it was a good topic to bring up. There are millions of websites on the internet and if you frequent others its no skin off my back. We love to have you, but again no skin off my back.
@Ryan – Like I said, its been a long time coming and I appreciate your comments here. I will try to be more mindful of how I write but remember this is a one man operation and I can only do so much.
To all the readers as you know UNEASYsilence is technical, political, social, irreverent and original. Personal rants sometimes make it to the surface. I apologize if it touches a nerve but stuff like this makes our site unique.
I have to agree that pouting and stomping and calling him a jerk doesn’t seem like the right response here. Grammar is something that improves with practice, but not if mistakes go by unnoticed — pointing out grammatical errors is constructive, and fixing them in your writing will make you a better communicator over time.
Hmm, maybe all those net projects is why your a single guy, and I have no idea what being single has to do with grammar.
Oh and the reason why rants are looked upon so negatively, is because they seam very unprofessional, and most rants end up hurting people who try to make money with they words.
I’m pretty sure that by “single guy” he means that he’s working on this website by yourself… Try and read the context clues buddy… Or at least try and use some common sense.
Someone call the whaaaambulance! You’re correct — you’re writing a blog that has tens of thousands of readers, and you’re running three other businesses as well. Those are perfect reasons why you SHOULD be concerned about your spelling and grammar, not reasons why you shouldn’t. Saying that the environment you were educated in wasn’t all that great… get off your ‘pity me’ soapbox and push yourself to learn more and further your education. I’ll buy you a grammar book (seriously) if you want it.
Okay…lets move on…shall we…Ryan knows he is a tard knocker….this is Dan’s site and he can say, type, spell, post, block and punch Chad in the face when ever he wants..
@ Ryan, I suggest you take up a different hobby or how about a website devoted to fastfood restroom signage of the world…you freak…
