Palm Rocks With Latest Report - Market Share Up To 13.4%

Posted in Random by Dan at 2:28 pm

I know there are Palm haters out there, but the Palm brand (and OS) are far from dead. Word dropped on my desk that Palm has, may I say, as surprising Q1.

A study from IDC, indicates an increase for Palm handhelds from 7.9% in the previous quarter (Q407) to 13.4% in Q108. It is also worth noting that on March 31, Palm announced the sale of its one millionth Centro showing a strong interest in the platform.

By no means am I a stock analyst nor pretend to be one on TV but for an industry that seems to be dominated by RIM and (now) Apple Palm made a VERY strong showing and I am proud of my tried tested and true company.

  1. I love my Treo 680 and I had a palm pilot 5000 back in 96.
The instant on was fabulous. The all features in one package was the ultimate goal and Palm did it first.

True that they lost a huge lead to Apple and Blackberry but this post is encouraging. The mass market is not stupid after all!

I bought my Palm T|X just a couple of years ago, after debating for a long time which platform to spend my hard earned $$ on. What decided me was not only price (it cost less than the equivalent PocketPC), but that it had a mature operating system and oodles an oodles of applications that had been around for a long time. To my mind that meant there weren’t likely to be ugly surprises yet to be discovered with it. It can do almost everything that a Blackberry or iPhone can except make phone calls. This last thing doesn’t bother me the least, since I prefer my phone to just be a phone. I’ve never regretted my purchase, and have never not once eyed up a Blackberry or an iPhone and considered dumping my Palm. The Palm OS may not be very slick looking, but it functions perfectly for me.
