Alisa Miller gives this brief but meaningful look at US news coverage. I personally prefer the TV news coverage of the BBC with CNN: HLN after that.

  1. I agree with this whole heartedly. After a recent trip to Taipei where I could watch BBC world service in the hotel, I have had a really hard time coming back to the dearth of actual news provided in the US. And a harder time when my wife wants to watch it. I just wish that I could find a decent feed of BBC news video on my satellite provider.

This, combined with the overwhelming tide of anti-intellectualism, scares the hell out of me. It’s created the ideal environment for the xenophobic, hyper-jingoism, that’s taken over the U.S, to spread. It’s exactly what Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and their goons want.

  3. wow that’s depressing.

And all the stations are the same. :| I just turned on the news today for the first time in ages (i get most of my news from the web now) and two completely different channels were playing the exact same stories at exactly the same time, with even the same comments and footage, just different anchors.

    Where’s the variety, people?
