Pingie Enhanced - Now Wapalizing Your Favorite Websites, Traffic and Weather

Posted in Random by Dan at 11:17 pm

Pingie enhancement time. Like I said in my earlier post, Experiment 23 has been booming and that is thanks to Pingie. To mark its rapid success we have fortified Pingie with a few more new cool features. For those out of the know Pingie allows you to get your favorite information delivered to you on the go - via a dedicated SMS shortcode or via email.

Most of our expansion lately has been on the mobile phone side. Today we formally announce Pingie Links (Which I affectionately call Wapilizer), Pingie Weather and Pingie Traffic.

First and foremost, every Pingie message is now tagged with a dedicated URL that, when followed, opens your sources full story in a mobile phone friendly webpage. So, the next time you get a Pingie alert just instruct your phone to follow the link attached to the message and give our mobile site a try. It is a great way to stay in the know on the go.

Secondly, Pingie now tells you traffic and weather conditions. Traffic is a bit more beta (dare I say alpha) then weather - so I ask for your patience as we tweak it. Before you get out of bed in the morning you can plan what you want to wear and what roads to avoid. Just send a text such as ping traffic 90210 (Where 90210 is real zipcode) or ping weather 90210 (Where 90210 is real zipcode) to 95495. This allows you to get a ONE TIME update on current traffic or weather conditions. If you are so inclined to use the feature again all you have to do is send ping traffic or ping weather to 95495 and it will remember the last zipcode you entered.

We are excited about these new features and we would like to remind everyone that Pingie is FREE but before you use Pingie you have some kind of text messaging plan with cellphone provider so you do not incur per message fees from them.

  1. Pingie looks great. How would someone in Australia take advantage of the SMS features?
