Sure, the new UI and faster engine is sweet – but the fixes for the memory leaks are huge!
The fourth beta of the Firefox 3.0 browser was released Monday and includes more than 900 enhancements over the previous beta, Mozilla announced.
The creator of the open-source browser said the new beta includes improvements to performance and memory usage, fixes for stability, and platform-specific enhancements. Some of the enhancements include a new download manager to make locating downloads easier; a full page zoom feature that allows you to zoom in and out of pages more easily; and integration for Vista, Mac OS X, and Linux that features platform-specific icons, buttons, and other user interface elements.
If you want to be on the bleeding edge, you can download FireFox from Mozilla now.
Have you been using it? Curious how stable it is.. also curious on plugin compatibility. I would love a memory leak fix ( I have to restart FF every couple hours as it is ), but can’t give up stability / plugins.
So I don’t think many plugins try to become compatible until RC1 comes out and then you will see your plugins working. But usually they won’t work on the betas (I last used Beta 2 and they obviously didn’t work on it.)
The interface is kinda fugly. :(
To have extensions work, install Nightly Tester Tools and check the bypass compatibility check box; http://www.oxymoronical.com/web/firefox/nightly
GUI look is changed with themes;
try Proto for Mac if you’re on a Mac

For a new release, it’s best to start a fresh profile; finding the folder for profiles on a Mac is a chore… Once a new profile is created, make sure you’re cued for which one to use every time Firefox starts.
I could not agree with you more Nick. Not that I’m drinking the Apple Koolaid or anything, but Apple “just gets it”. That’s why I dig Safari. It doesn’t need any nor the ability to have “add-ons” to feel complete. It’s simple, doesn’t try to hard to be something it’s not or should be. From tests I’ve seen it’s one of if not the fastest browsers. All of this on top of paying close attention to web standards. Firefox STILL feels incomplete and STILL launches slower than Safari. However, they FINALLY got the input fields and buttons looking like they don’t belong in the 90’s. Don’t get me wrong, I dig that Firefox is minimizing IE, but it’s still not there. It’s still catching up to Safari.
