Use Wordpress As A Forum

Posted in Cool, Geeky, Random, Tech by Evan at 9:29 am

Mashable showed off a site that uses Wordpress as a forum and it had me thinking about the forum options available. The Dead One’s forums operate as you would expect a bare-bones forum to, where a message is posted and others can reply. It’s an interesting proof of concept, though the practicality for this is questionable since Wordpress has its own integrated forum, bbPress.

If you’re looking to do a forum of your own, you have 3 options: Premium applications that you pay for such as Invision Power Board or vBulletin, Free, hosted services such as Proboards, or Free self-hosted programs such as Punbb, phpBB and Vanilla.

What’s your forum software of choice?

I use MyBB (http://mybboard.net) for all my forums, used it for years and never had any problems

Just goes to show Wordpress really is powerful.

  3. I use PunBB because of how efficient it is. But I am definitely keeping my eye on Beast (http://beast.caboo.se/) a Ruby on Rails forum.
