Blackberry Down For the Count

Notice a little peacefulness today starting at about 3:00PM EST? Well thats because the RIM Blackberry servers have gone offline.

BlackBerry smartphones experienced a “critical severity outage” on Monday, the company told clients in an e-mail.

“This is an emergency notification regarding the current BlackBerry Infrastructure outage,” RIM support account manager Bryan Simpson said in an e-mail. The message said the outage affected enterprise clients and “users of the Americas network.”

RIM was not immediately available for comment and its e-mail gave no estimate on when service may be restored or how many individuals could be affected.

Last April, a massive outage crashed BlackBerry service across North America, leaving thousands of users without access to wireless e-mail.

As I have long argued the centralized email ring that RIM maintains is the Achilles heal of the popular smartphone. As RIM’s user base continues to expand expect to see more outages.

Anybody effected by this outage?

Ballmer you selfish twit… the Microsoft Sidekick would have made the news regardless. Call off your henchmen and leave RIM alone–don’t you have 14.3m Windows Mobile phones to hide from your shareholders?

Yep. The last email I received was at 3:15PM EST. :(

@SMASH: I had problems with my 8100 with the trackball not working in a specific direction. One day it’d be screwy, the next day perfectly fine. But just knowing it was a crap-shoot lead me to ditch it for something else.

I find that blackberry users are often a pretentious, self-important bunch.

I’m still down for the count :(

My messages would delete themselves, I wasn’t able to go to any links, set up any e-mails, anything. My phone would turn off. Service would go a way in seconds.
    this really sucks.
