i'd hate using the EEE with its 7" screen and tiny keys. once its open and in use, Air feels practically like any other notebook...

The "Air" came out long after the Asus EEE PC:
http://eeepc.asus.com/global/product.htm

I would have thought Apple would be more up on that arena. And the price of the EEE is only $400... ???

BTW: When the EEE came out, 10,000 units were sold in two weeks. I'd be interested to know how many Airs sell in it's first two weeks...

Toddler survivability: about 36 seconds.

I have a two and a six year old kid, so I think about stuff like this, especially since my laptop's primary function is playing DVDs for the kids on road trips.

Yes, it looks sexy. It's also almost impossible to service, unexpandable, and sorely lacking in ports which, yes I use the ports on my laptop.

I'll keep my eight year old Powerbook G3, so when it finally meets and untimely death at the hands of a three year old, I'm out $150 and not $1800. And that's if the G3 gets smoked bad enough that I can't easily fix it with parts from eBay. For a while there, Apple understood that when you spent three grand on a piece of hardware, you expected it to be completely and easily serviceable and expandable. Then Steve Jobs came back..
