This is the most anticipated and most dreaded time of the year at UNEASYcentral. This is the time of year we analyze feedback both positive and negative as well as usage trends to design a more perfect site.

And what you see before you fits most of the objectives we set out to solve. With this new design navigation is much easier, layout is much cleaner, and we have a more professional feel.

With this change we also considered users rights. We have phased out Google Analytics using own own in house analytics engine and are carefully evaluating new ad providers that better conform with our privacy practices. Also with this new design we look to phase out our twelve month design cycle and have this design evolve to serve us for years to come.

This design change continues to really emphasize the year of changes over at Experiment23 Inc, UNEASYsilence’s parent company. We are looking forward to the many new products that will continue to be rolled out over 2008 joining the family of Pingie and Clipalizer. We also look to bring you even more interesting original content you will never find on any other blog.

I must also extend my deepest heartfelt thanks to Derek who has been the leading force and design god for UNEASYsilence since the moment he joined our humble community.

Lastly, I spent the last two days sifting through comments and emails from prior design changes. If you have something to say about the design make it constructive, instead of “it sucks.” A comment like that accomplishes nothing but aggravation.

Cheers to our ever expanding readership and I look forward to continuing to being your quality content for years to come.

It’s cool. not bad… good work…. Also you may want to fix the Submit as I used javascript to change the submit button into a type “Submit”!

    javascript:document.getElementById(’submit’).type=”submit”

  2. Dan says:

We have the comments working now :)

  3. Derek says:

Yes. Silly mistake. I was on the fence about whether or no the submit button for comments should be just a button, or an image. Overlooked the input type before the theme was uploaded. Glad it wasn’t something more serious.

  4. Dan says:

Overall the email comments have been VERY positive!

  5. Danny C says:

Great work! Compared with the last version, I like all of it! I really like the comments in the right column.

Neat idea: make the categories section like a tag cloud, where the font size is a function of the number of stories in it.

If I had to be a nitpick, and this goes back to the last revision change, you dropped all but the top images from the home page forcing me to click into any story I missed. I understand it may be for bandwidth reasons, but that’s something that I miss.

  6. Luke says:

Like Danny, I think the right-hand column kicks ass. Mixing posts with comments works intuitively. I also like the nice use of whitespace, which makes focusing on content all the more easy.

A small thing, though: unless I’m missing something, could you add the post’s date somewhere? For example, “Posted in Site News by Dan at 7:50 pm on 20/1/08″. I know it’s in the URL as well as the title-text of the links on the right-hand column (”…was posted on 1/15/2008″), but somewhere on the page would be nice, too.

    Kickass.

  7. Ian says:

Looks really nice and clean. Great job Derek!

I was actually today just wondering what the next site redesign would look like.

  8. Evan says:

    Weee new theme!

  9. Myke says:

Hmm not bad. Caught me by surprise when I first saw it.

The only problem I have with it is the feel of it being a little crowded. I like the comments in the sidebar but at first glance it seems a little busy with the post title getting lost in among the amount of comments.

Maybe there is a better way to help decipher the two besides just indenting the comments? Just a thought.

Otherwise I’m thumbs up! Looking forward to the UNEASY year ahead!

  10. PJ says:

I quite like it! The comments on the side are a great touch.

  11. dombi says:

Good job guys! It looks really good.

  12. Eric says:

This is very original. I love it.

  13. Michael says:

Yeah – the new theme looks cool and (hopefully) more functional. Certainly not a dramatic and sudden overhaul I was worrying about, but different enough to be good…

Only point from me is if the right hand column could allow you to collapse posts etc.?

  14. Jack says:

pretty smooth. looks good and is a nice change.

  15. Breakaway says:

It’s good, but i miss the pingie page corner thing, i would play with that when i was bored… making it open/close/open/close.

  16. SMASH says:

when i 1st saw it i actually said “wow”
i really like it, best yet.

haha breakaway i did thta also

  17. Evan says:

Why don’t I get the Uneasy guy on my profile? How do people know I’m the real me!??!!??

  18. ghostshadow says:

It caught me by surprise too! I’m not sure if I like it.. I prefer the older layout myself. I felt more comfortable reading the content on the right, or maybe it’s because the main content area seems smaller now. I’m not sure.. The recent comments is really busy.

I still prefer the other theme. I guess I’ll have to deal with this one, it does look nice, but I just liked the simplicity of the other one more and I liked the colors.

  19. ClaMs says:

I love it. It’s very clean and easy on the eyes.

As said above, kudos for the sidebar.

  20. Navaro says:

    /me likes

  21. maijc says:

i like it, but recent comment make me doubt about the lightweight of the page, but i really dont care, good job redesigning the page

  22. David says:

I like this one better than the last. The only thing you might consider is to add a little gray to the sidebar, to set it off from the content side.

  23. Chris says:

At first glance, I prefer the previous theme, mainly because it is “weird” to read the content on the left side. That and the next/previous links I miss. Otherwise I like it mucho!

  24. Noname says:

The text font is too small.

  25. Chris says:

My only complaint would be that there doesn’t appear to be any easy way to move forward/backward through stories, which is something I would regularly do.

  26. emory says:

Allright! You brought back my favorite part of the last-last theme – Recent Comments! It really helps to tie the “community” together! Love the new theme, MUCH MUCH better than the last one :-D

  27. amedika says:

I’m diggin’ this good job guys!

  28. Matt says:

I must say I’ll miss the old design, this one feels alot like most blogs but meh times change, but this is a good replacement. Very nicely done.

  29. R031E5 says:

I’ve been reading this blog since 2005 and it has been a pleasure to do it. There have been some bumps on the road, but you got over them. Kudos to all the UNEASY staff and hope to see you around next year.

P.S.: I wrote this comment Jan 20th 2008, actually it was going to be the first one but it wasn’t working hehe, so, just, uhm, consider it as if it were on the top :p .

  30. chad says:

    @RO31E5

    consider it considered :D

  31. Jon says:

    I certainly like it!

  32. testories says:

just 1 story has the pictures?
    me not like it
now have to frikking click, load another page to see if it has any pictures … :(
    please more pictures
    TOO MUCH TEXT

  33. Matthew says:

I like the new theme plenty. I don’t like how only one article is featured and the rest are summary sized.

  34. Myke says:

    @Matthew:

I think the last theme was the same way…

  35. Dan says:

And the theme before that ;)

  36. Nick says:

Far better than the previous version.

  37. Andrew says:

I like the looks but as previously stated, there is no way to go easily forward or backwards through the stories. I think this is a needed feature, but the rest is great. Keep up the good work. :)

  38. Brandon says:

    Looks great! :)

Really like the “recent comments” section on the right, great idea…..

  39. Don Wilson says:

    Looks GREAT. Nicely done guys

  40. Felicia says:

Everything looks wonderful. It all seems very…accessible. Very easy to navigate and such. Fantastic!

  41. Kevin says:

It’s fine except I dont like the “recent comments” sidebar. I’m here for the news stories not what people think about them.

  42. Paul B says:

I tend to be more of a traditionalist (except when it comes to new technologies) so I liked the old design much better than this one. The thing that I like from this new design, though, is the prominent placement of the “Recent Comments” box on the main page.

  43. Zack says:

Wow, I came back from vacation to this… Having the stories on the left is taking a bit to get used to, but other than that I like it.

  44. i don’t know, honestly, i liked it better before…i think now it looks like every other site*slash*blog out there…just my opinion…i guess all that really matters is the awesome content, which you seem to have down…

  45. Ravi says:

i honestly dont like the new theme…atleast not the archive section…older one was better allowing you to view the post b4 going into it by clicking
