Just days before Macworld apple took the wraps off a new behemoth of a computer. The new Mac Pro are now standard with 8-cores using Intels new Penryn family of chips (Using the “Harpertown” desktop chip to be specific).
The base model new features these drool worthy specs:
- Two 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors with dual-independent 1600 MHz front side buses
- 2GB of 800 MHz DDR2 ECC fully-buffered DIMM memory, expandable up to 32GB (?!)
- 320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive running at 7200 rpm
- and a 16x SuperDrive with double-layer support (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Wonder why Apple introduced this machine now? Maybe to make room for more positive Macworld news?

“The new Mac Pro is the fastest Mac we’ve ever made,” said Philip Schiller
pff.. as if they’d ever say “Well it’s not the fastest Mac ever, but it looks nice ay?”
But none the less their marketing ploy sure did work. I’m even more curious to see what’s coming out next week.
It’ll be fun to play with these in SF. But seriously, anytime they make a speedbump to their flagship line, it’ll inherently be the “fasted Mac ever we’ve ever made.” I remember them saying that when they released, oh, just about every iteration of the 9XXX series PowerMac.
Who would introduce a new, slower …anything?
Vista: “Now slower with more bugs!”
lmfao! I just decked out this computer in the store just for the hell of it.
$26,241.90
SO… do you want a computer, or a car???
@IAN: “Wow! I got my new PC with 3.0GHz Quad Core processors, 512MB graphics card and 4GB RAM with Vista Ultimate. You should see how fast it crashes!”
LOL@ Lisa. I was about to do that because I heard how outrages the price was with all the add-ons and couldn’t believe it!
