Scoble Cries That Apple Lies

So Robert Scoble’s Mac crashed (something that must have NEVER happened in Windows) and he decided instead of realizing the facts that computers DO crash and move on, he posted a rant.

Now my machine won’t boot. Well, that’s not really true. When I power it up the Apple comes on. Then the screen gets dark and a little message comes up:

“You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.”

So I restart. And get the same message. I do it five times just to make sure.

And so, now I’m back on my Windows machine.

Screw you Apple and your ads saying you’re better than Microsoft. Screw you. Screw you. Screw you.

Screw you and your controlling PR machine.

Grrrrr.

Oh, and if you think I have something against Apple, no I don’t. But my computer, a 17-inch MacBookPro, has already been in the shop twice. My son’s MacBookPro 15-inch has been in the shop twice and has a dead USB port now so both of our machines need to go back into the shop.

What’s ironic is lots of other computer companies would LOVE to give me free stuff (I don’t take it) but Apple is the only company that’s never raised a PR finger to help me. Instead I feel so honored to spend my money on this crap. Why? Just to have a shiny machine?

Well, sorry. The shine is wearing off. Screw you Apple.

Boo Hoo Hoo Apple doesn’t give you free stuff and you OS crashes. Get over it! Apple never claimed thier computers don’t crash, just that they crash less then Windows. Hey Robert, there is this thing called BootCamp that lets you run Windows on a Mac – how about you use that.

If Apple claimed that their computers never fail, and never crash then they’d never actually sell an AppleCare Protection Plan.

Call me a fool for browsing the internet, but I’ve grown quite tired of the constant whining of the Web 2.0 communities, let alone individuals who think that the fact that they have a personal blog means that their thoughts are more important than others.

I totally agree with your opinion here Dan, Scoble is upset at Apple while his computers have had problems. And he’s not upset because they’re having problems. He’s upset because Apple say they are better than windows. *sigh*

There is the other side to this, I’m not condoning his rant… btw why the hell was that worth a news ?, but apple does abuse their position, they aim and say that they provide better quality products than the competition, and now we find out that 2 out of 2 Scoble’s computers are screwed, and we’re not talking about mac mini’s here, but probably top-of-the-line macbook pro’s… how ’bout instead of bashing Scoble for his rant, you actually think about the failure ratio of the apple computers ?

Um, kernel panics are often user/software related, a little research and troubleshooting and he might have been fine, instead of crying blog.

Secondly, anyone who buys into advertising hook, line, and sucker deserves to be awoken harshly.

  5. I recently hopped on the Apple train. About 2 years ago I bought a G4 Mac mini. Now I have two Macs in my home. I added a MacBook in 2006. The hardware is pretty but the OS is what sold me. The MacBook had a motherboard issue which Apple quickly remedied. Since then.. nirvana. My Mac mini chugs away quietly serving up content ( photos, video, music ) for the family. The MacBook is my daily take along. One complaint. I don’t have a budget for an Intel iMac for the kids.

I’ve never understood exactly what Scoble has actually accomplished to get the amount of attention he gets. He’s not technical, he doesn’t seem to be a very good marketer, I just don’t get it. Reading his blog posts, he’s not a very good writer either. Whatevs.

As far as reliability, why would we take this anecdotal sample when there are actual tracking numbers that show these things? A sample of 2 machines is hardly viable.

The problem you are having is software related, I had this happen to me. It has to do with software you are using that is reacting poorly with the airport. It forces the OS to quit.

My problem came from torrent downloads, specifically something within the torrents or Transmission(which I use). I used AppZapper to get rid of Transmission and have had no further problems.

My advice: get IceClean 3.0 when it is relased(freeware) to clean up your computer and and AppZapper to rid your computer of any unwanted programs.

wow…. what do these twats do? play rugby with their laptops?… my 15″ macbook pro has been running strong for going on 2 years now… and the damn thing has only been restarted maybe 40 times in those 2 years…. if that ain’t stable I dunno what the fuck is.

Yo Soble …. enjoy Vista ya schmuck :D

  9. I have a kernel panic once when I jumped into the Apple train a year ago. Imagine the horror of seeing a panic screen instead of BSOD, a totally new experience for me :P. At that time, I really don’t know what caused it, probably the faulty memory (have since upgraded the original memory), or simply because I was trying so many new programs that it crashed one another.

PS: I’m seriously considering buying a 15″ Macbook Pro although honestly speaking, I don’t really need it. The lust! Argh darn you Apple!

PPS: I might wait for the MBP to have another upgrade, say maybe a nice Nvidia 8800 mobile GPU?

“Hey Robert, there is this thing called BootCamp that lets you run Windows on a Mac – how about you use that.”

Ehh… If he can’t boot properly then how is bootcamp considered a solution?

And…. He obviously had a lot of hardware issues and I see no way of solving these by installing software. To some extend I undestand his frustration. After what I’ve heard then Apple doesn’t offer the best service.

It’s called “archive and install,” it works wonders.

Hold “Shift” while holding the power button to restart your machine. It boots in “Safe Mode” hopefully getting rid of the error “Please restart … bla bla bla”. Then go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility. Try to “Repair Disc Permission” as it may be corrupted in some way. If it still doesn’t work repair it by booting on to your OS X disc and go to the disc utility and repair it while booting on the disc.

Good thing about OS X is if it is broken you can fix it. Windows however ends up in my trash can and I do mean the real thing and not the OS X Trash Can.

If something doesn’t work try to find a solution. If your car won’t start don’t blame the manufacturer just because you didn’t fill the gas.

    Cheers!
