Load OSX 10.5 Leopard on the eeePC

So, ever since I got the eeePC I’ve loved how easy it is to tinker with. Since I’m not a Linux guy, I dumped the Xandros preload and opted for Windows XP so I could you my EVDO USB datacard and blogging software easier, but I wondered could I install OSX on it? And, after trial and error – you can!
The only problem is that the eeePC only supports SSE2 instead of the SSE3 that Leopard is coded for. Kinda a bummer, and will require some extra tinkering to coax the OS on the eeePC. Thankfully Adam’s awesome tutorial over at Lifehacker provided an excellent foundation on how to do these hacks.
First, download the Brazil Mac Hack from OSX86 Scene. This patch helps you create a X86 version of Leopard you can install on generic PC’s.
Once that is done, you will need an DMG of Leopard, if you have a Mac you can create and Image in Disk Utility – just make sure your self created image is called osx-leopard105.dmg and it should be saved on your desktop. Or you can skip all the steps below and download Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard [ToH]-RC2 SSE3/SSE2 Intel Only from your favorite BitTorent site – scroll down to the point where you see Leopard is now installed.
Should you choose to create your own image and patch it. Quoting from Adam’s tutorial:
After you’ve downloaded the zipped patch files, unzip the archive and drag all of the contents of the archive to your desktop (it should contain two files and three folders in total).
Now open the 9a581-patch.sh shell script in your favorite text editor. At the top of the file, replace XXX with your username on your Mac (so that it reflects the path to your current desktop).
While we’re at it, let’s edit the 9a581PostPatch.sh file as well. This time, edit the fourth and fifth lines at the top of the file to look like this:
PATCH="/Volumes/LeopardPatch/leopatch/" # path to the patched extensions
LEO="/Volumes/Leopard" # path to Leopard installationSave and close both files.
Finally, it’s time to patch the DVD. Open up Terminal, type sudo -s, then enter your administrative password (your login password). Then type cd Desktop and hit Enter. Now you’re ready to apply the patch. Keep in mind that you’ll need plenty of space on your hard drive to perform the patch. I had around 20GB of free space when I did it, though I’m sure you could get away with less. To execute the patch, type:
./9a581-patch.shand hit Enter. The patch will now execute
You will also need to download a patched SSE2 kernel from here. When thats downloaded, unzip it on your desktop.
Open up terminal and type:
sudo hdiutil attach -readwrite $path_to_patch_dvd -owners on
Where $path_to_patch_dvd is the location of the actual ISO on your desktop. The terminal will prompt you for a password, enter your user password.
Then the ISO will mount in read/write mode. Drag the SSE2 mach_kernel you downloaded before to the ISO and replace the existing file. Eject the mounted volume and burn to DVD.
This will then create a SSE2 compliant Leopard DVD.
Once the DVD is created, plug in a DVD drive into the USB port of your eeePC and set the boot order in the eeePC’s BIOS to read from the USB drive first. When the eeePC starts you will get a DOS like screen asking if you want to start the installation or hit F8 for options. Hit F8.
You’ll now see the boot: prompt. Enter -v -x and press Enter
After about 15 or 20 minutes the MacOS X graphical installer will launch.
Quoting again from Adam’s write up:
Format the install drive: I know that you’re raring to install now that you’re finally here, but there’s one thing we need to do first: Format our hard drive so that it’s prepared to receive the Leopard installation. So go to Utilities in the menu bar and select Disk Utility (if you don’t have a working mouse yet, you can still access the menu bar from the keyboard). Once Disk Utility fires up, it’s time to format the drive. Here’s how:
Select your hard drive in the left sidebar.
Click on the tab labeled Partition.
Select a 1 partition Volume Scheme, name the volume Leopard, and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format.
Last, click the Options button and choose Master Boot Record as the partition scheme.
Now that your drive is ready, so are you.Install Leopard: This really is the easiest part—just follow the on-screen instructions and choose your newly created Leopard partition as the install destination. Then, before you make that final click on the Install button, click Customize and de-select Additional Fonts, Language Translations, and X11. These components were removed so we could fit everything on the patched DVD, so we won’t be installing them now.
If you did everything right, Leopard is now installed. I didn’t seem to need to run any of the post install steps in Adam’s tutorial so I’m not going to write those steps up. It is highly recommended that if you are not geeky (or very unsure of any of the steps above), I suggest you download Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard [ToH]-RC2 SSE3/SSE2 Intel Only from your favorite BitTorent site.
I’ve noticed that Leopard is a bit pokey on the eeePC because of its slow processor and 512MB of RAM. I ultimately opted for a file called Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2].iso that I found on a popular BitTorrent site that seems rock solid on my eeePC.
Also for those worried that they will destroy their eeePC – You shouldn’t. Aseus encourages you to install Windows, which requires you to destroy the default Linux setup. They created an awesome bootable restore DVD which you can use restore the machine to factory settings at anytime. Just like brand new.
The eeePC is really a great hobbiest computer.
Questions or comments? Drop them in the post. I’m still tinkering with the OS, and will report back on what works and what doesn’t. Thanks again to Lifehackers excellent tutorial. Without it, I would have never been able to get past step one.

@Dan: Gratz.
Only thing I will say is that I think by and large, you may find you’re better off with the pre-installed xandros. Any other OS (especially the way one shoehorns Mac OS X into machines at present) is a bit too fiddly plus if you don’t have SSE3 and/or recent intel chipset, my understanding is the EFI hacks at the moment do not allow you to run an unpatched kernel (hence no updates).
Apple is definitely FTL for tying down their OS to machines. And having us pay a premium for crap desktop hardware. I mean… do the math.
But due respect – their laptops are pretty cool – when they are not having heat or battery problems.
@Jim D: sigh… It’s people like you that make Apple and M$ the monsters they are. You are definitely FTL.
This is so cool! the hd space is the only limitation.
It’s illegal to install OSX on hardware other than mac hardware, so even if you buy OSX it’s still illegal. But they are doing it for a reason, if evereybody was able to install OSX on their PC’s, there would be load of driver issues, and then people would say that macs are no different from PC’s.
Why doesn’t someone make a disk image of the leopard build for the eeepc and then upload it to a popular torrent site?
:(
there are a few things that i would like to say here.
1st- the whole crap about the journaled flash drive can simply be fixed by making it a non journaled partition.
2nd- it did take some tweeking and when i say tweeking i mean alot of it to get wireless working so it is possible.
3rd- my eeepc mac is running Mac OS 10.4.8 to the fullest, the only downfall is it won’t keep time and dial up drivers are a null.
4th- it seems that by running the apple updates it fixes alot of the bugs in the system its self (like the built in webcam)
over all i find that alot of the guides out there explaining how to put mac on the eeepc arn’t the greatest. i personally said screw it and figured it out my self and by the sounds of it my eeepc is more operational. now i’m not saying that what i did is the best way (i do have 9 years of software development with IBM under my belt).
If There are any Questions i will try to help.
one last thing, i’m currently working on a driver package Mac OS 10.4 to run on the eeepc. its a little harder then i thought so it will be some time.
OK, to all those claiming this is not legal, go find a better case. If you own the software, you own the software. Apple cannot write laws, only a licensing agreement. Their licensing agreement says you cannot install OS X on any non-Mac, but this threat is not supported by law and is therefore irrelevant. ALL that Apple can do is say that they will not support certain hardware (which by the way, they don’t). If you feel like going through this for the sake of installing software you own on hardware you own, go for it. You can’t expect Apple or anyone to have answers or adequate support for the problems you encounter.
@Luke, keep us posted on that driver set.
@Naysayers, get over it.
Thanks all!
You seriously must disable swapping to the SSD, and of course metadata refreshs und journaling. Your harddrive will not live very long without these things!
Great idea, i am waiting for your driver package.
Is there a way where i can help you?
Oh for god’s sake. Give me a break on all this legal and non-legal nonsense. It’s beautiful that it is possible and all the hackers/programmers should receive a greater deal of respect for their job. I do not think that Apple is going to suffer a whole lot from this. They still sell their macs.
Why don’t you just buy a second hand macbook off ebay, you’ll have roughly the same processor and ram. Bigger hd and osx will run better.
But well done anyway mate, sure it was fun to do
Marcus, thank you. You are absolutely correct. :D
As soon as Luke makes that driver set, I’m buying one of these. I might buy one anyway and try to do it myself, it just depends how long he takes. I just want to be sure the WiFi and sound will work, or at least have instructions on how to make them work.
P.S. I already own two Macs and three versions of Mac OS X, so no one could really say that I’m ripping Apple off anyway!
Dan – Is there any way you can give us a walk through for Tiger? Besides downloading it, of course. After all, you said you ended up going with Tiger because it is much faster, so how did you hack it?
Yeh, that sucks witht Swap file and journalling in Leopard. Leopard just isn’t built for flash SSD storage. Even when you look at the Macbook Air, it comes with a normal Hardddrive. I would expect SSD be available for this type of machine. In terms of the wear on the Flash drive, you are really better by installing Win XP or of course Xandrox, since X. doens’t use swap or journaling.
Yeh, I would love to show off Leo on my eeepc… But till this particular thing along with some hardware driver compatibility issues are solved, I’ll hold off. Just my 5 cents.
I forgot to mention – the guy who posted above under the name “None” made an interesting point – you eventually would wear out a solid-state drive, what I’m wondering is would it really be that fast? The way I understand it, each time you overwrite the data, you basically etch off a layer of the storage unit, and the number of layers is finite. I had the impression, though, that you could overwrite the whole device several thousand times before wearing it out. Can anyone verify these details, and have there been any other cases of computers running for extended periods of time on an SSD? I’d like to not worry about reliability issues if I do buy one of these, which I probably will in the next few months.
The next question is for Dan, or anyone who already owns an Eee PC. When you open the BIOS, (F2 key?) can you set the boot priority of the card in the SD slot to be higher than the built-in SSD? If so, if/when you wear out the SSD you could just start booting from a 4GB or 8GB SD card instead. If you’re running Leopard, you could do Time Machine on a real hard drive, and if anything fails you will still have a backup.
My next question is for Mac users. I have used OS X Tiger for quite some time now, and I always owned a Mac before that. In the old Mac OS you could set the amount of ‘Virtual Memory’ used by the system, but X seems to just arbitrarily take as much as it needs (which is a good idea, it can be hard to guess how much extra memory is really needed). My question, prompted by None’s post, is CAN you disable file swapping in Tiger or Leopard? You would want a ton of RAM (like 2 GB) if you were going to do that, but it still would be useful to know how. I haven’t seen a way to do that in the System Preferences.
My final question is about Linux. Doe Linux write swap files like OS X does? Can you disable or reduce the amount of file swapping in Linux? Would the Xandros system that ships with the Eee have options for this? Does anyone know of a good Linux that LOOKS (and preferably acts) similar to OS X, or would it be better to just mod some existing distro? OK, I know it was a long post, sorry, but I do hope that it adds something good to the discussion. Thanks for your input.
Great article. No problem running JaS 10.4.8 on my triple-e, 800×480 works very well. Though, I can’t get anything else working – neither WiFi or Ethernet. Anyone with networking on their Tiger install?
I have been a mac user for 5 years and I really had no interest in the eee pc until i ran across your blog. my MacBook is starting to feel a little bloated and the idea of a mac i can practically stick in my back pocket for $300 is pretty nice. i have been trying to wade through the discussion here and i just wanted to clarify.
can you install 10.4 or 10.5 with full usb/wifi/webcam functionality?
it seems like there have been a lot of add-ons since the original instructions at the top of the page. can you repost the step-by-step with all of the updated tips and tricks?
ps i already own legit copies of 10.4 and 10.5 so i don’t have any problem downloading a tweaked copy online
Kyle,
It looks like a few people have managed, the consensus is that 10.5 is pretty slow. Several people have had issues with at least the WiFi, Ethernet, sound, and convincing the OS that the screen is 800×480 instead of 640×480. I don’t remember reading anything about the webcam, though. I think this could work, but it would be quite a process to get all of the features working. I’ve been thinking about getting one, but am holding out for a better step-by-step.
Oh yeah, the original poster (Dan) seems to be sorta MIA, he hasn’t posted in quite a while so you may not get an answer from him.
I Try to Install Mac OSX Bye THO
After System Boot Into Setup The Setup Did Not Find My HDD
Now What Can I Do
10.4.8 with diabolik GMA900 fixer runs well, both QE / CI enabled at 800*480. Quicktime movies run smooth, iTunes music good. In VLC movies are good, sound doesnt work well, it’s a no go.
Wifi can be fixed by buying an airport mini PCI-E wifi card, and replacing the ATHEROS wireless one in your eee. You can easily find an airport mini PCI-E compatible card on eBay, about US20. It will work natively with apple airport drivers. The hardware replacement is featured on dozen of wikis.
Journalled/non journalled: at install just pick non-journalled, it works fine.
Apart from the sound issue in VLC, there is one more problem. My eee only successfully boots 10.4.8 1 out of 10 times, otherwise hangs on a blue screen (no joke). This is really big problem. And the timing in OS X is off, every second takes like 2 or 3 seconds.
Nice howto, but most of those steps are now superfluous if you get the kalyway 10.5.1 dvd which is prepatched. No need to do any script stuff or anything, and it runs pretty well, with *all* the usual caveats for osx86 (wifi, keyboard/mouse issues, gfx drivers, etc). And yes, the SSE2 emulator is included and works on my vaio laptop (vgn-tx1).
s/hobbiest/hobbyist/
Floris,
Your boot problem can be solved using the external monitor/paperclip trick.
NOTH,
How do you install the 9GB Kalyway Leopard on a 4GB machine?
Please help. I have the eee 2g and want to connect via gotomypc or logmein to access work computer. I am able to download Java runtime
but not able to open. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, how long does it takes to start (boot) the OS X?
iv read a lot of posts about if the wifi works and how fast osx 10.4 will work on it.
first off google the wifi problem and there are a few sites that know how to fix it.(not sure which one)
Second yes it will work fine on 900hz computer/ i have osx 10.4 on my 8 year old computer and its running at a slow 300hz and its working just fine!
If you visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arxdlBGolTE you can see it in action on 10.4.9 Tiger. I used Uphucks version 1.3 of his 10.4.9 Installer DVD.
There are also step by step instructions for those who need a hand along the way on the link in the video above.
RADON: 10.4.9 takes around 30-40 seconds to boot. No idea on 10.5.
Did Dan actually get wifi working or just replace the wifi card? And can anyone confirm whether leopard is still slow with 1gb ram
Would it be possible to just have the contents of a usb boot drive for download? I mean if one person got OSX working on the eee off a usb, then couldn’t someone copy the files onto a new usb and use it? The new person wouldn’t have to go through all the steps and pains to get it.
(Theoretically, of course).
JIM, stfu – BUTTLICK
I watched the YouTube video listed above, seems to work just fine. I currently have no sound on my iBook, so I may have missed it on the video, but did the guy mention the timing issue or any other problems with the installation?
Thanks! For the link to the YouTube video, just look four posts above mine. I’m still waiting for the details to be fully ironed out before I buy mine! :D
Is anyone working on webcam, wifi, and audio drivers? I would love to see a FULLY functional eeePC running apple
Not only a fully working OSX on Eee but a full current guide as to how to do it… emphasis on CURRENT!! ;)
Hey Tyler, I speak all about the EeePC and the issues encountered.
I even play a little ELO while demonstrating!
You need to jump on a computer with sound to see the full power of the EeePC! :)
Its just a matter of time before we get Tiger on the eee with everything working. I’ll check back in another month.
Ok I can’t wait anymore! Why can’t we get some drivers for this sucker?
@HappyCar… Your video makes me jealous brother! How’d did you get wifi and sound working on your eee? Isn’t it possible to install os x from a usb drive?
happycar, great video! i am a believer. i am getting my eee in about a week and i will definitely give os x a shot. i have to admit though that it looks like gOS (from the cloudbook) might be a more headache free choice, but i have 2 apples and i would love for my eee to be fully compatible.
you mentioned wireless. what are you using for wifi? is it the factory built-in or something else you modded in?
hey Dan,
so i can just download Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2].iso and install it on the Eee PC, is this the easiest step?
If I did it right, would I be able to have MAC OSX Leopard on the same hard drive as Windows on my PC? I’m planning on putting this on my main computer and then using Boot Camp to run any non-Mac programs with my already-on-hard-drive Windows install.
Happycar, have you found a way to fix the core timing issue? Let me know, that’s the main thing holding me back at this point. Thanks!
people like bill gates and steve jobs are the biggest thieves of all. am i in bizzaro world all of a suddden?
Il popolo italiano si inchina difronte alla tua scoperta perchè hai reso con questo tutorial un semplice eeepc un mac.

Thank you, italian people talk about you as a Messiah, that transform eeePC into Macbook.
If we ever want this to be more than a limited hack for the “I just wanted to see if i could do it” folks, we are going to need a full set of drivers for all of the standard ASUS hardware. No more ‘bridge the pins on the vga’, or ‘no audio input/output support’, I mean everything working. So, it is time to put my money where my mouth is.
I WILL GIVE A $50 REWARD TO ANYONE WHO CAN PROVIDE A FULL SET OF DRIVERS.
This means drivers for all of the standard system hardware: Audio (input/output/speakers), Wireless, Video (including VGA output), Webcam, Ethernet. The person who provides the drivers also must provide step-by-step instructions on how to install them on an eee running 10.4.x
Of course all of this is dependent on testing them out. Whatever drivers I receive, of course I will make available to everyone else by posting them here or somewhere else online. I just want to see the project moved along, and selfishly I want a usable eee running os x
Let the games begin!
Kuaile, although you mean well and are chomping at the bit to get this working for you, $50 is kind of pointless. In most Western economies at least, it’s considered pocket change. If it’s going to come down to money, an offer of $500 might realistically speed things up given the time involved and the skill level. However judging by what I’ve read above people who are enthusiastically working on this aren’t doing it for money and offers of money won’t speed anything up.
I will match the $50 reward. I want to use osx on my eee as well but can’t deal with the current limitations. I dont have the skill set to develop the drivers myself but I do have $50 for someone that does.
first … thx DAN great work!
I am living in country side and have only a dsl 1000 (downloading the iso would take a fourtnight) so I tried creatig the .iso and patch it … successfully … at least I think so.
now I have the iso file and could burn it to a dvd … but then: no optical usb drive at hand.
is there any way to install the build and patched OSX 10.5 iso without an optical drive via an external USB HD?
sorry for my naive question, I am no geek at all but would love to see the eeePC running OSX as all my other machines ;)
rgds stooky
I have just about read the whole thread, but like others, I am still confused about what will and what will not work. Happycar has obviously done some great work, but his utube video shows the use of an outboard mouse. Does this mean that the built in track pad does not work? Also dem shows iTunes and web, but what about an app like Word, will it run that OK?
I am going to order an eeePC with 8Gig with 1Meg of RAM to give it the best chance of success, but to all of you very clever people out there i will need some help! Keep up the outstanding work.
And Luke, how is it going with the full driver set? Like others I am happy to pay for them.
PS Is the general view that OS X10.4 is the best bet, or should I go for OS X10.5?
The worry about the lifecycle of modern SSD storage is pointless. Read this article and you’ll realize that journaling, swapping, etc… isn’t really a concern at this stage in SSD technology.

Actualy the reward for making Tiger fully work on EeePC (and expecially fixing the kernel timing issue) reached the amount of 450 USD.
This amount of money will be provided to the person that will provide the drivers and an installation howto.

Hi
Has anyone used the Eeepc screen protector and leather case? Yesterday, I saw a web site to sell this, it’s website is http://www.allfreeship.com.i want to know who used it,tell me ok?
Thank you !
My friend told me to replace the Hard drive on his iBook G4, and i’m trying to install OS X from a torrent I downloaded and burned, but I cannot boot from them. =[ I tried all suggested key combos, but it cannot boot from the DVD.
I downloaded:
* Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2]
* ToH_x86_9A581_RC2.iso
and another one that’s 7.2 gigs, which I have no idea how I’m supposed to burn.
Someone please help?
hey guys, i downloaded both 10.4.8 and 10.5 from the torrents. im having difficulty installing them both. when it loads its saying something about having “no explicit kernel dependency”
Hi ! I’ve been watching this thread for so long. I’ve burnt something like 15 DVD and today, I go it running !!!! The easiest way is to use the uphuck 10.4.9. It took me 6 days to download it and a couple of DVD burnt very slowly. I’ve installed it on a SDHC card (Lexar, 4Go, class6). I first boot with a screen pluged in my VGA port. It runs a little it slow, but it’s just amazing :) I tried to tweak the ifi kext but I just can’t make it work :( By the way I”m French so if some of you are french too and interested in, I can help.
Hey,
I wanted to ask if anyone got WiFi and Sound to work on OSX? If yes, how?
pop on over to http://tigeroneeepc.wikispaces.com/message/view/home/2888959 The current reward they are offering is $550 to fix the issues. If you’d like also to pledge something to get this off the ground let us know in the forum. mert165
I think this hack is great and may eventually develop into something I have been looking for. I cannot find any program that is equivalent to OS X’s Garageband. Not anything that is as easy to use with my U-key midi keyboard. I’ve tried several Windows programs but they are usually over complicated with a poor GUI. My U-key keyboard plugs into the USB port and plays all the instruments Garageband has to offer on my MacBook Pro, but I want something that is small and portable and easy to replace if stolen without breaking my budget. I wish to give one to my daughter and school theft problems are unfortunately common.
Have you tried any Midi Keyboards with Garageband ? Is the latency acceptable?
Its nice to see that this topic is still active, i was actually wondering. if it would be possible to use an External Harddrive.
to install leopard, i saw the person saying that they didnt want to purchase the dvd drive.. so does EEEpc have a boot from external command sort of like the macbook pro?
In fact ,I thought the screen is too small
I tried making my own disk but it never even gets to the installer, any tips maybe i’m doing something wrong??
PS don’t use 10.4.9 ver1.4 it doesnt work on any sse2 despite saying so
great! do you think it’ll ever be possible to install OS X on the new HP 2133? because it doesn’t have intel processors, but VIA. well, answer is probably no, which really sucks, because the aluminum case of the HP is really a lot apple like, would be great to actually turn it into an apple, but HP had to destroy that dream.
Hello!
I was wondering if any progress had been made on this?
I won’t be buying my eeePC until I know for sure that I can run either; tiger or leopard.
Please reply with drivers and/or howto’s!
Thanks in advance,
Panarchy
Dan, important question, the eee PC you instaled Mac OS-X on , was it overclocked to 900mhz or was its processor running at its normal speed? Was it maxed out on RAM?
I just wonder how these two variables would affect the speed of the OS.
Any thoughts on how ‘well’ Mac OS-X will work on the new eee PC 900? I guess on the first variant (i.e. more RAM(?) but same processor) there won’t be that much of a difference, but on the ones which have the ATOM processor, should hopefuly be even faster.
If you want to use a USB webcam with mac, get macam. You can find it on apple’s download page.
Hi, Does eeePC support SSSE3 processor and vanilla kernel?
Did it take several minutes (5+) to get past the very first screen (Select a language)? And several more minutes with a spinning beachball for each screen?
I have HP dv6000 laptop with AMD cpu, it has windows vista premium but i’m sick of window… can i install mac os on this machine?
i’ve never used mac before.
thanks
Hi Dan,
i have an EEE PC900. if i install either the Leopard or Tiger, will the Wifi, audio work? if yes, how to install the drivers for this 2? i am using the 2 image file you recommend from torrent. thanks
i have an EEE PC900. if i install either the Leopard or Tiger, will the Wifi, audio work?
Yes
please help when i try to install leopard it says that i cannot install because my pc doesnt meet the requrements
I am definitely going to do this just to laugh at my \mac friends\, but eventually get pissed off and revert to a good os… WinXP!
Hi all
i have installed “Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2]” on my eepc ,but i have no sound , no wireless no web cam , can somebody help me to fix it ? thanks
tiger runs great on my eee 4Gs.
Got a dell 1390 for wireless and with a little tinkering it works just as well as an airport card.
SOUND!
is my only issue.
I have read that the headphone jack is a lost cause, but I remember the installer playing music when i first started it up through the speakers.
Now, It doesn’t recognize internal speakers.
any way to get mobileme to sync without upgrading to 10.4.11?
any suggestions?!
thanks,
s
hi i installed it fine on my new Acer Aspire one netbook. everything works but the wifi which is understandable but for some reason it will only boot into the OS when i have the external drive hooked up to it. any reason that might be?
OSX on third party hardware:
I don’t see this as theft by using a torrent as Apple don’t officially sell OS X for my hardware, and say it is not to be used on my hardware, they are not loosing any money if I happen to install it on my hardware.
In fact apple gained from my theft as I liked it so much I went our and bought a mac Mini 8)
Apple wins a sale.
Hello,
I’ve tried to install Leopard version Toh x86 rc2 on my eee pc 8g. Installation fails displaying the following error : ” Mac OS X can’t be installed on this computer”. Can someone explain to me what to do ? Thanks. My email is marietto2008@gmail.com
Errata Corrige :
After clicking on the message that I have explained in my previous post, the installation of Leopard is gone forward, but when I clicked on Disk Utility, it was blocked again and I do not think it will go ahead.

Sure John, you’re in the right way!
