Given that I so regularly have to go through the process described by SERABO because there are times when the stuff on the clipboard isn’t text, I don’t understand why Paste Unformatted Text isn’t a contextual menu item. I was told computers were going to learn my preferences and adapt to make my life easier and less repetitive. LIES!

Or you can use the clipwasher Yahoo! widget which will blank the formatting not just for Word but any other format-friendly text entry.

For the occasional pasting of unformatted text, this is even easier…
Edit > Paste Special > Unformatted Text

Here’s something much quicker for you:
CTRL-C to copy

Alt-E-S-U-U and ENTER
This is basically a PasteSpecial for Unformated text with the keyboard accelarators.

Much quicker to implement and universally implemented in all Word versions.
