Forget Formatted Text, Paste Plain Text Into Microsoft Word

Tired of every time you copy and paste something into Microsoft Word you get all the formatting atributes? Using these steps you can remove formatting from your Word Processing life.
- In Word, select some text and press Ctrl-C to copy it.
- Click Tools, Macro, Record New Macro (in Word 2000, you may have to extend the Tools menu to see the Macro option).
- In the Macros dialog box’s name field, enter PlainPaste.
- Click the Keyboard button to get the Customize Keyboard dialog box.
- In the ‘Save changes in’ drop-down menu, select Normal.
- Put the cursor in the ‘Press new shortcut key’ field, and press Alt-V.
- Click the Assign button, then Close.
- In the small, TV-shaped floating toolbar on Word’s screen. Select Edit, Paste Special, and double-click Unformatted Text.
- Click the Stop Recording button (the solid square) on the toolbar.
- Henceforth, Alt-V will act as a keyboard command to paste unformatted text.

Here’s something much quicker for you:
CTRL-C to copy
Alt-E-S-U-U and ENTER
This is basically a PasteSpecial for Unformated text with the keyboard accelarators.
Much quicker to implement and universally implemented in all Word versions.
For the occasional pasting of unformatted text, this is even easier…
Edit > Paste Special > Unformatted Text
Or you can use the clipwasher Yahoo! widget which will blank the formatting not just for Word but any other format-friendly text entry.
Given that I so regularly have to go through the process described by SERABO because there are times when the stuff on the clipboard isn’t text, I don’t understand why Paste Unformatted Text isn’t a contextual menu item. I was told computers were going to learn my preferences and adapt to make my life easier and less repetitive. LIES!
