I got my eeepc701 4g a few days ago, the linux os it ok but i think i will be installing XP soon, i really want mobile broadband in the uk and also not being able to print to my wireless lexmark printer is a right pain.

It will be a shame to lose all the other bundled apps with linux but mobile internet is the main reason i bouhgt it..

And at £219 its right bargain, yes you can get a cheap notebook for about £299 but then you get very poor battery life, and its not portable, unless you carry a huge bag with your laptop PSU and cables and having a normal laptop on your shoulder for more than 30 minutes really starts to ache.
And a sub 12″ notebook with cost closer to £1000, some nearly £2000.

Its never going to replace my home laptop but if they can get a larger screen and more storage built in maybe next year it will.

I want it! I want it! I want it! But it’s not available yet on my country :(

So I guess I’ll have to content with some $500 12″ laptop (there are some here, Acer mostly) and add a 12 or 16 cell battery to keep me company on the road

I really love the Eee PC and have it on my list for christmas. I probably won’t get it because $400 is too expensive but, I can still admire the wonderful device. I can’t wait for my local best buy to get them in stock so I can go to the store and play with one.

Chad is on the right track. For the price I think the Eee PC is a great buy. I’m twiddling my thumbs trying to figure out if I should just go ahead and order one. I think it was about time that I accustomed myself with Linux on a regular basis.

One question out there for anyone who has used it, how is it with Gimp?

4GB more than enough for “Windows Fundamentals”, not the “complete install” but this will never be your primary computer…

this would be perfect for lunch (in all seriousness), the other day we had to cut lunch short and get back to the office because of some malformed code and a server alert bothering the entire dev team of where I work, if we had one of these bad boys running ubuntu with a VPN client, we’d probably still be sitting there drinking pints and talking nerd.
