Call of Duty 4 fans receive blank discs from Best Buy
Oh what a kill joy it is to get home [ready to play a few hours of Call of Duty 4] only to discover that within the mint packaging resides a blank DVD.
Halfway there my buddy opens up this FACTORY SEALED copy and starts laughing followed by a couple choice four lettered words. I look and staring back at us out of the box is a completely virgin (even fingerprintless) disc. U-TURN!
The Consumerist has the scoop concerning blank Call of Duty 4 discs leaving Best Buy. Now I’m not one to immediately point fingers, but Best Buy can’t seem to get a good break these days. Check out what one of the ever so popular Geek Squad employees had to say:
On a side note, the GeekSquad ass who was next to the customer service was a jackass and suggested I was scamming them because this is the second one of these he’s seen in the last week, with the same kind of blank Phillips disc. Best part being where he told me prison is totally worth a $50 game.
What would you have said to a Geek Squad’er if you received a blank game disc and had to put up with a smart ass?

I usually try to be very polite to these folks because I know they are working very hard for a lot less money than I get, but the one time that accusations started flying (over a candybar at a grocery store), I asked the guy flat out if he intended to press charges. Then I got him to call his manager over, and explained that although I am not a lawyer, I am pretty certain that making these sorts of defamatory statements about me within earshot of other customers was actionable but that I was perfectly willing to settle for seeing the responsible party fired on the spot. We finally agreed that an apology would be acceptable and I went on my way.

I would immediately call over the supervisor and explain the golden rule of “The Customer’s Always Right.” It’s sad that large corporations seem to forget that customers go to their stores to give them money, not get harassed over incidents like this. I would gladly go to a store that charged a tad more but would offer any support I needed if there was a problem. Best Buy has shown time and time again that they only care about the buck.

Seriously. They’re just doing their jobs. Everyone should do themselves a favor and just not buy games or hard drives from BB.

Best Buy - I steer clear because I choose to deal with local stores. The few dollars I save if I go to Best Buy are not worth even the risk of a scene such as described.

The same thing happened to me with my Austin Powers DVD a while back; it was from Best Buy as well. Luckily they believed me.
