Australian Children’s Toy of the Year Contains GHB

I can’t even speculate on how this got to market.

“THE Australian toy of the year, Bindeez, has been withdrawn after a warning that the date-rape drug GHB may have been “deliberately” put into the product….

Bindeez are made in Hong Kong and imported through Melbourne company Moose Enterprises.

The bead crafting kits won the title of Most Popular Toy in March.”

I guess there is an easy way to get a hold of GHB.

Ah how toys haven’t changed since….well…the mid 90’s when I played with them. Only now they just take the fun out of it by making a little gun to put the beads in through.

Not anymore my good friend, they are all of the shelves. I visited the local department store yesterday (AUS time) and the whole shelf was empty.

The toys were supposed to have a non-toxic glue in them, but at the factory, it was tainted with the GHB.

I work in a store in the UK that sells Bindeez…might mention it to management at the weekend.

As many of you probably know by now, the same problem (opportunity?- just kidding) has arisen here in the U.S.A., with the same toy having the name Aqua Dots. My understanding is that the “GHB”- like substance was not added deliberately, it was an ingredient in a paint or dye which the Chinese maker substituted for the original in some batches.

    [edit to my earlier comment:]

The substance was in the product’s glue, not paint or dye. Anyway. I thought the “date rape” drug was actually Rophypnol, (sp.?) not GHB…
