Continuing on the theme of excess started off by the giganto-remote comes a pair of earbud headphones from Pioneer that ship with more cushion sizes and driver modifiers than you can shake a stick at. The cool thing about these is that not only does the sheer number of options allow you to find the perfect fit for your sensitive ear-holes, but each configuration actually effects the sound in a different way. Best of all, instead of having to dig through a box of crap each time you want to change the tips, everything is laid out all nice and pretty-like in a custom organizer. [via]

I don’t get it. I would pick one set that felt comfortable and then I have a box of parts I’m never going to use… Am I missing something?

The idea is cool, especially since I’m a configuration junkie, but in practice I agree with Tensenki. I actually just purchased a set of the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro buds on Thursday, and I’ve never had a better listening experience in my life. As quickly as the V-MODA Vibe, the Etymotic Research ER-6 (2 sets), and the Sony Fontopia (2 sets) all wore out, hopefully these will last two years.
