I'm a long time LinkedIn member, and use it primarily for keeping track of professional contacts. I try hard not to accept any invitations except from people I know, but in spite of that I have hundreds of contacts that I met once and have forgotten a lot about them. Having a photo to remind me who they are, especially for people I've not seen for more then a year, will be useful.

I've been invited several times, and think I may even have a profile... but must admit, never use the damn thing... if it's an important contact, it's in my phone, address book, and backed up in a contacts CSV file safely tucked away.

As a member of LinkedIn, you sometimes can't remember a name where you might remember a face. This will be a big help in trying to identify my contacts from previous jobs.

Forunately it's one picture. Since it's a professional network, I think there'd be pressure to put up a decent one. And yes, it'd better not degenerate into another Facebook or MySpace :P
