Everyone knows the Japanese have some quirky obsessions, but vending machines? Sure, there are probably more mechanical merchants in the land of the rising sun than any other place on earth, but one could be forgiven for imagining that they kind of dissolve into the background of daily life.

Not so for Ryuuchi Terada of Hokkaido, who has been posting daily pictures of the same vending machine to his blog for over two years now. Not only does this guy bother to actually take a picture of the darn thing every day, he goes a little bit overboard with his half-time analysis, featuring complex flow charts, an examination of popular products, the location of each and every item in the machine, and many more overly-detailed specifics.

While I’m sure its nice for this guy to have a hobby, I can’t help feeling a bit sad for him, as he’s obviously dealing with some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder.

In any case, this is a truly fascinating site and a prime example of how awesome the internet really is. [via]
