Split-Brain Experiments

Anyone who took a psychology course in college (and that’s almost everyone) should remember the all important corpus callosum– that bundle of nerves in the middle of the brain that connects the left and right hemispheres. Without getting to science geeky, suffice it to say that while one can live an almost perfectly normal life if this is severed (which is sometimes done surgically to help alleviate severe epilepsy), some seriously weird shit can happen as a side effect, as demonstrated in this video. 1. The BBC did a great documentary about the brain called Brain Story. This guy make an appearance in a couple of the episodes (there are six), but the rest of the segments are fascinating as well.

I may or may not have been able to watch this due to its availability via torrents. Just saying.

  2. Dan says:

This whole right-brian/left-brain theory is simply that – a quack theory.

Back in the 1950’s an experiment was done where some phsychiatrists got some poor fool and ripped half his brain out (I don’t recall which half) and he went on to lead a normal life thereafter.

No side effects whatsoever. Remembered everything.

Your brain is YOUR brain – not YOU.
