Wow, i didn’t realize just how much smaller the touch looks compared to the iPhone. Hell, i was surprised that it’s just about as thick as the iPod nano, and that’s really, really tiny!
I’m also going to pass. As well as pass on the 160 (even though my 5th gen 60 is full). It seems like Apple has released two new products made inferior by each other – two halves of one great product. Which means I’ll have to wait for them to come to their senses.
(Is it the battery power required to drive the touch interface that made a hard-drive product unviable?)

Pretty much. I was reading somewhere that between the caching of album art on a big screen and I library like one a 160 could hold and movies on the screen, the battery life of an Hard Disk iPod Touch would be about 2 hours. I’m waiting till Flash memory increases on capacity and drops in price. Maybe the next year of two.
The hard disk draws a lot of power, and so does the large display, so having both in the same device would require a huge battery, which would increase the price and make the device much less slim and elegant.
The answer will come with time, as flash memory gets more plentiful and cheaper. Assuming Moore’s law holds true with flash memory, then we could have a 32GB touch in 18 months, a 64GB touch in 3 years, and a 256GB touch in 6 years!
Unfortunately flash memory is not getting cheaper at the moment, because demand has escalated because of all the new devices using it, but supply will exceed current demand eventually.
Are you experiencing the weird negative black issue found on most touches?

Compared to a Zune, the Touch is a piece of paper.
As for the black issues I haven’t seen any problems yet have you Dan?
also, I got an 8gb version, and the other issues I’ve heard were all from 16gb’s i doubt that that’s really important, but worth a mention.
p.s. love the laser etching on the back of your iPhone.
Of course, Steve, compared to the Zune, the touch has a floppy disk’s capacity. I mean, 8gb for how much money? Pass.

Mark H, yes it is.
