Just because there are instructions to do a hardware hack online, doesn’t necessarily mean you are capable of doing it.

We were so happy, all the software part was done, so we started opening the iphone. The antenna cover was a bit tricky but eventually it came off. Then we started to open the metal cover (after taking out the 3 screws) and PUFF, up it went in smoke, I think my collegue must have touched something. It literally went up in black smoke. I was so hot that when I tried to pick it up I burnt my fingers. So, this is for sure the most difficult part of the whole process. I don’t know what he did, as I had just stepped out of the room to fetch something when I heard a scream…they got such a fright.

Wonder if Apple will cover that under their warranty?

    I don’t think they cover stupidity…
Makes you want to buy a proper insurance for your toys, doesn’t it ? ;)

    And one more thing… BOOM!

I just wanna know what he did to make it explode.
I’d laugh if all he did was forget to remove the battery or something dumb like that.

    Yea, was it still on?

  5. I doubt Apple would cover that under warranty… I just hope the guy wasn’t stupid enough to leave the battery in while he hacking with it. Hopefully the software hack for it will be available soon.

    “this iPhone will self-destruct in 5 seconds…”

seriously, these guys shorted out the battery, and, well, thats what Li-ion does when its not happy. way a go seeing $500 go up in smoke. i’m sure they’ll get another one…can’t stop a true hacker with anything.
