China controls a very large chunk of US' national debt, and they have expressed clear intentions of manipulating that leverage if the US tries anything. Granted that the US eats a lot of China's exports and cutting off trade to them would hurt China's economy massively, what would the US do without those exports? They are programming and such for dirt cheap I'm sure they'd work in a factory just the same.
