Thanks to the MPEG-2 codec it is very hard to find a free software solution to burn DVD movies. But with a little ingenuity you don’t have to pay a cent.

To burn DVD’s you will need to use two free programs. Using SoThink Movie DVD Maker you will first create the file structure ready for burning to DVD from virtually any movie file. Once SoThink is done processing the files you will need to use ImgBurn to create the disk.

ImgBurn is a free DVD burning, CD burning program that reads a disk to an image file to create a verified media disk to avoid making coasters.

Actually SoThink’s DVD Movie Maker does have built-in DVD burning functionality so you do not need IMGBurn, although some prefer to use IMGBurn to do that part of the job.

I wrote up a how-to on this just this past weekend if anyone is interested.

I really think you should try dvdflick.net. It has all features in one, and not only recording, but encoding and authoring a DVD and finally recording it with img burn.

just wondering if there were any suggestions for a similar process to be done with Macs…
