The building boom in Dubai might seem miniscule in comparison to this super-mega-ultra-über structure. Being designed by Tansai Construction Corperation , this mega structure is designed to be 7 times as tall as the worlds tallest completed existent building (Taipei 101), contain 800 stories and have a footprint of 6 kilometers and be located on Tokyo harbor.

To Quote:

“Designed by Taisei Construction Corporation as an “intelligent building,” the futuristically-named X-Seed 4000 would maintain light, temperature, and air pressure in response to changing external weather conditions.”

More after the jump:

The project is expected to run anywhere from $300 billion to $600 billion and be loacated off the coast of Tokyo.

My impressions range from: Wow this is going to really mess up Tokyo’s shipping lanes to the possible price range being one tenth of the annual budget of the United States. I am feeling that Japan, with its stagnant birth rate, has no real reason for building a structure to house 500,000 to one million people. (Except to show off)

This design was originally designed by Tobias Bernstrup and shown at a 2004 showing at the Center for Contemporary Images in Geneva. The original video is not present on the internet.

  1. MY ANUS says:

    omg finally ITS HERE !

  2. Muff says:

what the eff David Blaine? Don’t the Japanese have anything better to do??

  3. Travis says:

Wow. Am I the only who is actually SCARED by the thought of this? This is something straight out of a goddamned scifi movie. Like The Island. Nice, beautiful, lush and green inside. Barren desert and death outside, with all housing eradicated and these structures taking its place.

  4. Steve says:

    I would totally move there!!

  5. Ian says:

Hey, it’s like those things in SimCity 2000. Man, the hours wasted playing that game. Good times.

  6. Mikey says:

I still occasionally get the itch, and have to install Sim City. I succeeded at making a super city once, and have never come anywhere near again. Luckily I still have the file for that city in storage :P

  7. breakaway says:

I think this would be a major target for terrorism…. just in my opinion…

  8. Adam Jackson says:

Reminds me of Sim City 2k. What a kick ass game!!!!

  9. Don Wilson says:

I saw that on History Channel or something of the like a year ago or so. The massive problems in their way will be hard to solve, but awesome if it’s built anywhere in my lifetime.

  10. SMASH!!!! says:

    @ don

    i saw that too!!

they said something about title waves that would rip apart the base of it and sooner or later cause it to collapse or something… i dont exactly remember

  11. Wally says:

    It will never be built…

  12. Mike D says:

If this is built it will probably be built in space.

The trouble with a structure like this is that all materials deteriorate and there would be no material permanant enough to trust to hold up a structure this large and expensive.

@Travis honestly if something like this were built and they were able to avoid using a fossil fuel power station it would be great for the area around it because they’d be able to use public transit to get you around inside the structure and a lot of things could be self contained. Ofcourse for it to be self contained it would probably require a lot more engineering and that may not happen.

  13. SartanA says:

    @MIKE D

They will have to use diamonds to build the stucture, it is the only material that will be able to hold without deteriorating

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  14. anonymous says:

WOW! This is crazy! 13,000 feet! NO WAY!No one will build this thing! PLUS ITS TALLER THAN A MOUNTAIN! HAHAHAHAHA! NO WAY!Terriosts will totally destroy it if it has an invisible forcefield!and what about earthquakes?
