This one suck under my radar. Amazon S3 recently celebrated its one year birthday and with that birthday the company analyzed how S3 was being used and how they could make it more affordable for users. After mush thought Amazon lowered the pricing for S3 and introduced a tiered pricing system eliminating the flat $0.20 / GB for uploaded and downloaded file.

The new pricing is as follows:

$0.10 per GB – all data uploaded
$0.18 per GB – first 10 TB / month data downloaded
$0.16 per GB – next 40 TB / month data downloaded
$0.13 per GB – data downloaded / month over 50 TB

Storage will continue to be charged at $0.15 / GB-month used and the new pricing model is in effect.

  1. I’ve heard a lot of the Amazon S3 and it really is a great idea. I’ve always been afraid of losing my precious data (pictures, etc). This is a great (and cheap, might I add) solution. People even use their Amazon S3 for hosting static content, which is a useful, too. Now that they’ve lowered the price even more, I think it’s time to go and try it out.

Sameer, Do you use a Mac or run a WP blog?

  3. I run a WP blog. Why?

  4. Oh and I do have a Powerbook G3 (used to use it lot more about a year ago). I should look into those nice macbook pros.

  5. Dan says:

Well there is a plugin for Wordpress that uses S3 as your storage, and Bandwagon backups your iTunes to S3 as well. Don’t forget about Jungle disk.

  6. Ohh right, I’ve heard about Bandwagon and Jungle Disk, but didn’t know about the wordpress plugin. That’s really cool.

S3 is certainly worth the price. I think in the 6 months I’ve had it, my bill has been under $5.

  8. IAN, and that $5 is BEFORE the price reduction, right? man, I need to get one of these….
