I’m a sucker for data visualization– as evidenced by my Anymail post– so I was tickled pink when I saw these beautiful population density models on display at the world famous Tate Modern museum in London; part of their “Global Cities” exhibit examining the modern urban environment.

Created using raw population density data and advanced 3D modeling by a team at the London School of Economics, the models represent the different levels of urbanism in London, Cairo, Mexico City, and Mumbai. Constructed of layered plywood, each additional layer represents an additional 200 people per square kilometer.
