Microsoft announced today that the HD DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 will now cost $179 in the United States as of August 1st, 2007. The offer will also include 5 free movies if purchased between August 1st and September 30th.
Noteworthy HD DVD titles coming out include “300″ and Heroes: Season 1. Sony’s Blu-ray has a similar offer running, offering consumers 5 free movies with the purchase of a Blu-ray player, including the Playstaion 3. Any idea who will take this format war? It’ll be interesting for those that take Microsoft up on this offer. How will they be able to watch their movies when their Xbox 360 is still being fixed over at Microsoft?
I love the HD-DVD player. Added to the cost of a 360, it costs more/almost the same as a PS3.
I don’t even want HD movies yet.
An xbox 360 with the HD-DVD Add-on and wireless connector is more than a PS3. Why not get the system that has it built in and doesn’t have a red ring of death?
Because the 360 can also play games, something I haven’t seen yet for the PS3. Except for development boxes at trade shows, anyway. When are they adding that feature?
Funny. I think the 360 is more of a quick fix right now, in the long run the PS3 seems like the way to go.
360 a quick fix?!?!?!?
I see the 360 as a great sytem only getting better, and as for ps3… I will stick with a system that holds its value, buying a system that only drops its retail value 2 weeks later would leave me feeling like I was just Raped…
I will be taking M$ up on this offer!!!
5tifler: Why do you think Sony’s system is going to drop in value, while Micosoft’s is going to stay the same? (By the way, basically economics states they will both go down in value for a while.)
5TIFLER – it seems that Blockbuster, Target and other will not take them up on the offer, pledging major support to Blu-Ray.
