TiVo Unleashes Series3 Lite

Friend of the site Dave Zatz has got his geeky little paws all over the TiVo Series3 Lite.
The most visible cost cutting moves were made by dropping the OLED display and Glo remote, plus reducing hard drive storage by about 1/3. Though it seems that the bulk of the savings were obtained by re-engineering the internals. Interestingly, industrial design and hardware layout began about 14 months ago – prior to the launch of the Series3. TiVo HD pre-orders begin today with units shipping, and hitting retail, in early August.
He confirms the price at $299 and the fact that it accepts analog cable.

i still prefer my home built mythtv :)
Again with the Mythtv. Enough already! Call me when Mythtv can record encrypted cable content, and when I can buy one in a HTPC case, already built, that comes with a remote, that updates itself when needed, and works perfectly when I plug it in, the very first time. Oh, and it shouldn’t cost more than a Tivo. Then I’ll consider switching. I really wish I could go the Mythtv route, but it’s just not there for anyone except very hardcore linux geeks.
