You know those god awful sweet little animated eCards that spam stuff your inbox for no reason now have the potential to harm your computer.

The Washington Post said Saturday that Internet spammers were at it again in a big way by concealing a computer virus in a link to an online greeting card.

Postini, an e-mail security company, told the Post that since July 2, it has seen about 275 million of these spam messages.

This has to be the smartest delivery method I have heard of to date. Just pick a generic name as the sender, spoof the email of some popular eCard site. All of our managed clients use Postini that we administrate for them. it’s a great bargain and anyone that’s runnign their own web server should be using it.

I’m receiving those email spams for now about at least three weeks, they are tricky, they almost look legit, only there’s no mention of your name anywhere and they want me to download a .exe because they are testing “new browser features”… yeah…
    EDIT:
yeah, since july 2, I must have received the half of that 275 millions spams, I can receive about five to ten of these messages per day.

Didn’t everyone stop using ecards in 1999, though?

Uh no, sorry. I get about 5-10 a day myself…

We have been getting hundreds of these in the news inbox on my work’s email and I know for a fact that I am the only person in this office with the common sense to delete them without checking them out. I just know if they keep up, it’s only a matter of time before I come in to see my boss freaking out and blaming me.
