Vodafone Possibly Buying Verizon for $160 Billion

Yup, thats Billion with a “B.”

Vodafone Group is reportedly weighing up a massive $160 billion offer for Verizon Communications as a way to take control of the jointly held Verizon Wireless venture, according to a published report Monday.

This would represent a departure from previous speculation that Verizon, the Dow Jones Industrial Average component that holds 55% of Verizon Wireless, would try to buy out Vodafone’s minority stake in the U.S. mobile-phone venture, whose network is based on technology that’s incompatible with Vodafone’s operations in Europe and emerging-market countries.

I would have to say if executed, this would be quite an impressive coup. Then the next question would be would Vodafone switch Verizon wireless to GSM and spin off the landline business?

  1. Bloomberg is reporting that Vodafone has no plans at making this offer.
