Downtown NYC to Have London Style “Big Brother” Surveillance

Downtown NYC is slowly upping the security surveillance to closely mimic Londons cuddly named “Ring of Steel.” The new system will feature non intrusive icense plate readers and over 3,000 security cameras, all in the name of security.

The license plate readers would check the plates’ numbers and send out alerts if suspect vehicles were detected. [...] But the downtown security plan involves much more than keeping track of license plates. [...] Pivoting gates would be installed at critical intersections; they would swing out to block traffic or a suspect car at the push of a button. [...] The Police Department is still considering whether to use face recognition technology.

Kinda makes the Subway bag search not look so bad. If you need me I’ll get back to wrapping the tin foil on my head.
