Its Official: AllofMP3 is Dead, Long Live MP3Sparks

It’s official: The Russian government has shut down AllofMp3. The site has long eluded the RIAA by hiding behind Russian copyright laws, but with threats potentially blocking Russia from the World Trade Organization, AllofMP3 has been suspended.
To fill the void, MP3sparks.com has been launched by the same company arguing the site is not illegal under Russian law because they use a different licensing model. All AllofMP3 accounts have been transfered with balanced in tact to MP3Sparks.

Looks like credit cards aren’t accepted right now. I hope that changes soon.
I had money still left at allofmp3 and so I decided to see if sparks would have the money carried over. I decided to try and log into mp3sparks with my old allofmp3 account but it would not take. So I clicked the forgot password link and it sent me my password from mp3sparks but it still would not let me in. I guess they are using the same data but have some provisions in place to keep the old account users from logging in.
Yeah, I had exactly the same experience as Kibby, and now the MP3sparks website seems unavailable.
Well, yesterday I found the ‘new’ mp3sparks. They still had my money and I even managed to download some music. The only problem was that you have to rename the songs and they don’t put it in the albummaps, instead they just punt hem in the maps of the band.
Today also the mp3sparks server seems to be down. Is this the last we heard of the Russian mp3 downloads???
I can say for sure that if there is a reasonable alternative, like 50 cents per song for a good bitrate (256 and up), I would surely go there and get my stuff. But 99 cents for a bad quality, a poor choice and having difficulty to make cd’s out of the mp3’s I paid for I think the musical mafia is not Russian but Western.
I just discovered MP3Sparks.com as well and was very happy after only downloading $15 worth of albums…
It figure I put another $25 on my account and all of a sudden it goes down.
How soon will we know if it’s done or they’re opening another site?
Kibby, in order to transfer your login name, password, download history and balances you had to log in to Allof MP3.com and then select the link to transfer your account information. I did that and all the information was transrerred seamlessly – it may be too late to do this now, as today both servers seem to be down.
As for the musical mafia, I agree with DJ Fons – it is of American origin, RIAA being the head of this mafia. RIAA has been trying hard to buy influence with the American Congress and the White House – it looks like they have succeeded – how unfortunate for the music consumers.
…but MP3Sparks is dead too !!!
It looks like they shut down MP3Sparks as well the site is dead just like AlllofMP3
Welcome to the reality of the US of A with its Bushy Administration created by from and for big corporations. They have been twisting the arms of Putin until he finally ordered to shut down the popular service. Probably the best way for us to defend the service which we all liked so much is to start the hell of a campaign in Usenet against the RIAA.
Down with the RIAA and down with the treacherous Bush Administration which only protects the interests of boodsuckers, be it in the musical industry, or in the oil industry. They could not care less about the interests of their consumers, be it consumers of oil, or consumers of music!
If you still have a balance on allofmp3 and mp3sparks you can still use it up at alltunes.com. Install the downloading software, if you’re not already using it, and your current logins will work. I used it last night for a couple of albums.
Kibby, After allofmp3 shut down, I realised I still had money on my balance but had not transferred to mp3sparks in time. I sent an email to support@mp3sparks.com and also sent the same query to the “assistance” section on the site stating that I still had money on allofmp3 and asking for their help. They automatically transferred my log-on details and leftover balance.
If you just create a new account with mp3sparks, hoping that the system will know you have a balance from allofmp3 and transfer it automatically, it won’t do it. I tried.
I know mp3sparks is down at the moment but you could try sending them an email and when the site is back up (hopefully) you could send one via “assistance”.
Now http://www.mp3sparks.com seems to be down. I am wondering if it was a duplicate of allofmp3.com they shut the sister site down also…?
down here too. Cant ping it either. At 8:18 -10 GMT message says
ping: cannot resolve mp3sparks.com: Unknown host
That sounds serious.
i just added $25 too. dooooh!
They could at least send out warnings to let us know they’re shutting down.
http://www.legalsounds.com is still ok it seems
Thank you Tom. I totally forgot that I had allTunes installed. I have just tried it – for about 10 miniutes it was downloading/installing updates and now I am able to listen samples and download again. I was able to log in and my balance showed up immedeately.
Long live MP3Sparks/AllofMp3/allTunes!
Is anybody else able to add money to their Alltunes acount? I have tried and it seems that they will only accept Mastercard now. Whats going on with all the mix up? It was fine until the govt. had to intervine, what #%%#$ bags….
That’s rite, the answer is simple, spend your unused balance with Allof through the AllTunes program. It still works, so download it if you don’t have it yet. Just use your current login and enjoy. It is easier than using the website anyway.
This is a sad day but to blame it on bush is as retarded as you can be. We have been enjoying a crimminal enterprise and the russians who dislike bush finally shut it down. RIP. Damn its raining outside, why would bush make it rain on a day when I was going camping? damn u bush
It’s up and running again!
Yes mp3sparks is operational again although I have not tried to top up my balance yet. But, the news is that a court of law found that there was no proof that these supposedly illegal sites were acting illegally and in fact Visa has been engaging in illegal activities by withdrawing its payment services. Visa has been instructed by the court to recommence accepting payments for alltunes. And Visa will not appeal the decision. So we should be back in business again shortly if not already
My big problem is with the DRM system that the RIAA uses to protect its music and the high costs of downloads.
So for years I have used Napster, Rhapsody and others sites to download and then n convert the protected downloads with SoundTaxi or Tunebites. That works better for me.
I only started to use the AllOfMP3 because I could not find the the music I wanted on other “legal” sites, then downloaded dozens of albums and downloads for a very reasonable cost. I have download from Mp3Sugar, for a few buck as first, then $10 on VISA, for music I could not find elsewhere, but also because it was such a good deal
There are lots of legal download music from many sites, but it just depends on the cost. Some are about the same as AllOfMP3, but it all depends all differ in the songs they have in the library.
And we all knew AllOfMP3 did not really legal, and probably pirated music, but it was better than paying CD costs for downloads, which is what the 99 cent USD, and better than Limewire and other such costs, that are even less legal – according to the US Supreme Court.
France and other WTO countries also have a big problem in particular, but it is always better for consumers to pay for downloads, rather than use the file sharing that is common for iPod users, and much less legal.
