haha I want this for sheer "yea it's retarded and I own one" value. It would be great for disposing or TV remote batteries.

Another handy use for this sir T D would be to MAKE SURE your batteries are dead. It's little known but if you toss some batteries in the trash can, and they land on some old steal wool (and suppossedly wet aluminum foil, due to the acid chemical reaction) that it will ignite a small fire, which would eventually burn down your house in some cases.

and since you're probably going to pull the "thats BS" card.

from a "survival guide"

"Steel Wool:
I mentioned steel wool and batteries. This is a VERY effective and simple way to make fire. Just stretch the steel wool (the rustier the better) out some and allow it to LIGHTLY make contact against the ends of two Batteries. The ones in your flash light are Ideal. it'll start a fire burning right on the steel wool!"

http://www.alpharubicon.com/primitive/firewithout.htm

" In these reactions it does not make much difference what the counter
ion is because these are general oxidation reactions of metals producing
hydrogen gas.

Aluminum foil will dissolve in either strong base or acid quite readily, and
in a confined space could get very hot, very quickly and set of the
combustion of hydrogen. It is also worth noting that these latter reactions may not be able to be extinguished with EITHER water or CO2."

Well, if you have near-dead batteries, this is a device for mindless entertainment from the residual charge.

Thats cr@p. Seriously cr@p. Why waste batteries on it? Why not use it on something useful that needs batteries?
