Blockbuster Shutting Down 282 Stores This Year

Waiving the retreat flag Blockbuster announced plans to close 282 stores in the U.S. this year. This slash and burn plan is Blockbusters latest move to remove the financial burden of underperforming stores and focus on its online rental service to compete directly with the DVD rental giant Netflix.

    Some stores are underperforming, while others are performing as they should or over performing.

    During the DVD boom, they opened extra stores literally within a mile of eachother, as they did here in south san francisco and san bruno. Way too many stores.

    Now they are closing those extra stores, 282 aint that many at all. And the Blockbuster in SSF is always jam packed. Im confident in their continued success.

    They have shut down all the ones within 15 miles of my house. So, I have no use for BlockBuster anymore. As far as Movie Gallery they have 3 within 10 miles of my house.
