The iPhone Service Plans Revealed

Today Apple, the weird Steve Jobs clone and AT&T jointly announced the activation method and pricing plans for the iPhone (only 5 days until you never have to hear about it again).

For $59.99 for 450 minutes, $79.99 for 900 minutes, $99.99 for 1,350 minutes you get unlimited iPhone data, visual voicemail (which I assume is data) and 200 text messages. You can get unlimited texting for $20 more.

Also for the fanatics who refuse to let anyone else open their newly purchased device Apple has built in an activation mechanism into iTunes that allows you to “activate the iPhone in the privacy and comfort of your own home.”

Why do you need to activate a phone privately?! Guess they are expecting some geeks to have premature…

    Unlimited data for $50? Sounds pretty decent, since getting data at all is usually a pretty hefty charge. Methinks that at&t’s EDGE network is going to be stress tested by people tethering their smartphones under these plans.

    I think those five days won’t signal the end. I’m bracing for up to a month of horror stories about 100,000 dropped calls and the phone giving people AIDS instead of curing cancer.
