They can say whatever the hell they want, but that doesn't mean that they are in the legal right. Something tells me all it would take is a lawsuit to shut down that operation, for better or for worse. I see where they're coming from, wanting to have a bunch of data, but the truth is that it'd probably be a lot nicer - and a lot more legal - if they just blurred out the faces instead. Ever notice how car license plates are blurred by the news -- its for privacy purposes. Why should Google have carte blanche to do something I can't? The good news is the actual panoramas don't seem to be nearly as clear as their demo video and I can't read the signs, etc. on many of them. I’m an avid amateur photographer, and if I want to publish a photo with people in it, I need to get a model release.
