Breaking the Silence: Thoughts About the iPhone

From the UNEASYblog:

The iPhone is like a trojan horse for both Apple and Cingular.

Cingular/AT&T’s beneft: It is a way to lock in customers to a high revenue data package for two years, not to mention premium products such as SMS messaging (pure profit). Oh, and Apple is handling ALL the tech support calls.

Apple’s Benefit: Apple is selling the iPhone at a profit, traditionally the industry sells the handset at a loss for the first few months.

Now the halo effect, If Apple is able to get even one iPhone user to buy a Mac it is a score. Apple’s hardware is sold at a SUBSTANTIAL profit margin, and they get more market share

Regardless if the phone is a failure, it will be a success. A company who was almost bankrupt 10 years ago is now worth $104 billion and they have garnered BILLIONS of free advertisements.

The thought was digested enough to make it to the front page. For more undigested thoughts, ramblings, rants, raves, unannounced features, etc be sure to check out the UNEASYblog or subscribe to it’s feed here.
