		<description>Interesting, but being French I don&#039;t think that &#039;maine&#039; is an old french word meaning &#039;province&#039;.
Actually Maine is a province from France, located in the west of France and named after a river that flows over there. Maine, the name of that river, comes from the old french &#039;Maienne&#039; which means something like: &#039;an average size river&#039; or a &#039;river in the middle&#039;.
So that sounds to me like the real origin of that state&#039;s name.</description>
