A 12 year study of 45,000 men concluded that participants who regularly drank 4 cups of coffee per day lowered their risk of gout by 40%, while men who drank 6 cups lowered their risk by 60%, although scientists have no explination why coffee helped. 1. Lyle says:

Gout is caused by a build up of uric acid. It is most often caused by eating too much red meat with out drinking enough water to wash it away. Drinking 4-6 additional cups of any liquid will lower the risk.

  2. Also, cherries and bitter gourd (karela) is actually quite good for gout prevention.

    In moderation of course.
