Find the Plane Clean Air Filter at Target
For the Germaphobe in you, Target is offering the Plane Clean Air Filter [via]. The title explains exactly what this little doohickey is designed to do – filter the air that is passed through the overhead vents during your next airline flight.
The scariest part of plane travel is…breathing the exact same air as everyone else in that metal canister for several hours as you’re hurtling through the air. Well, breathe easy—with the FDA-certified Plane Clean Air Filter. Simply put adhesive (included) on the thin gasket surrounding the filter, mount it on the gasper, and rotate to control air stream to remove 99.5% of all allergens, bacteria and viruses from your cabin air stream. Just direct a purified air stream at your face to force airborne particles away from it. And you won’t draw attention like wearing a mask might. After the flight, detach filter and put back in its case (won’t leave residue). So up, up and away the carefree way.
Any takers? Anyone so worried about germs on an airplane that they would keep this in their pocket on their next flight in order to minimize the chances of getting sick?

1) Isn’t the air on the plane already filtered? Is it? I honestly don’t know. I would assume so, but perhaps that’s just what they want me to believe…
2) How does this do anything at all? So what if their air that’s hitting you is filtered? The air wafting over to you after hitting the (probably disgusting) people around you isn’t, which pretty much nullifies any benefits gained from this device.
A mask my look weird (in the United States), but at least it stands a greater chance of actually working.
I dunno about number 1 but number 2 is actually kinda clearly answered in the description “st direct a purified air stream at your face to force airborne particles away from it” The idea is that if the stream of air is hitting your face air form the cabin isn’t. I wouldn’t work the whole time like a mask would (like when you get up) but it would be a lot more comfortable and less conspicuous, except for when you install it.
I’m sure someone -more paranoid- would think it is some explosive device and you’ll probably get arrested until they figure out what the hell this thing you attached to the plane is.
