Matte chat bubbles with iChat Matte

If you’ve grown tiresome of looking at some of the glossy bits in OS X, you may find the free iChat modification by Joshua Bryant a godsend. The free download will apply a matte layer to the chat bubbles that each member of a conversation receives in iChat. Personally, it’s one of the first modifications I make to iChat along with the fabulous Chax iChat tweak [which adds tabbed message support amongst other features].

Yeah, and in fact prefer it! It’s an incredible chat client, really. (And I’ve been using internet chat clients since they first came out, and IRC before that!) The only thing it’s really lacking is MSN Messenger support. And it would be nice to have video chat support in Google Talk, but who knows? That might end up in Leopard.
As it stands, I only have two chat clients installed these days: iChat (for AIM and Gtalk) and Microsoft Messenger.

One of the first things I do, besides installing Chax, is turn off those darn chat bubbles.
